I am so impressed! I am so in love! This is so going to screw up my comp testing on my upper gens!!!!
  • Oh, wow Cheers. He is amazing! What a problem to have. ;)
All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

  • What a stunner!

  • I’m so afraid to start comp testing my gen 4s against him.....I just got rid of a ton of gen 3 stallions for being inf to my new Gen 3 benchmark!
  • I had the same issue when my first 3g star was born. In fact, i still haven't tested all of them because I don't have anything to replace them if they fail. I test all new colts though and if i fond one that is AGA, then i test the older stud for that line because i have one to replace him if he's worse.

  • Congratulations Cheers! He is gorgeous! Gen 3 Stars/Golds are few and far between. They make great comparison stallions though the cull rate goes up exponentially.
  • Wow, out of B/Red foundations? Impressive! And you got all the fantasy goodies too!

Out of curiosity, how high did his sire test? Right now my 2G A studs have to test superior to a B who is AGA a low A, but I have had a few who test superior to that low A. I'm curious to know how high of an A his sire was to throw a *star (and the quality of his dam for that matter!)

  • Wow! That's amazing! I have a 4G gold mare but never would have thought a 3G star/gold was even possible! :x
  • @HTRanch I just compare my gen 2 boys to a high B as well. I will comp test his dad to a few of my other gen 2s and see if he comps Sup. Gen 2 mares just have to be Blue and are not comp tested at all.

I’m still finishing up breeding for the season (nothing like cutting it close!) but once I do I will start to comparison test him to my gen 3 and gen 4 boys. I require Star at gen 4. My gen 3 A benchmark is AGA this guy so that’s positive!

  • Ok, Powerage is AGA all my other gen 2 colts that are sup to my benchmark high B colt. So he’s within whatever the range is...

If anyone is interested, I’d be willing to comp test the mare once the breeding season is over. Comment here if you are keen to hear and I will comp test her and post the results.
  • I would love to know how the mare tests! I'm assuming she had the full pasture bonus?

That is really odd that Powerage is only AGA all your other studs. How lucky!

  • I would be very interested in hearing how your comparison test on the mare goes!
  • Oh my Cheers! You are going to have to rethink your whole Breeding Plan now! You are in a real small group of players to get a 3g Star colt.
I thought that I was good when I got my home bred 4g Star who tested AGA Topiary Play whom I bought from you. I may have to revamp my own Breeding Plan now to get more, and maintain that 4g Star production. I want to breed more 4g girls, whom I hope will paper Gold.
  • Awesome! Congrats.
  • Whoops, I did not just blow my budget comp testing all my highest 3rd gens. None of mine come close to *star quality!

  • For those following along, this guy compares AGA every single one of my gen 4 stallions, so he’s potentially a full generational leap forward.
  • I just comp tested his dam against a random selection of 10 other gen 2 Blue papered mares. She was superior to 4 and AGA 6. So she’s slightly better than a baseline 110% Blue.

  • Next step is comp test him against my gen 3 boys. Anyone who is inf will be slated to be replaced. Also now looking for superior gen 4 boys....sooo much culling to do!
  • I used my Gen 3 Star as my baseline for my Gen 3 and Gen 4 Stallions. My Gen 3 A's must test aga, and my Gen 4 Stars must test superior. Took a while to get there, but as soon as I got a superior Gen 4, I would clean out a bunch of the aga's. I now have enough that they all are superior. It does ensure very few colts escape the nippers each year.
  • My mares I am more lenient on. They must all be Gold at Gen 4 but do not have to be superior to a Gen 3 Gold. I do have mare lag in my higher gens, but the more I tighten down, the better it gets.
  • Awesome congrats Cheers!
  • Well, I don’t have any gen 3 Golds yet and haven’t been requiring Gold at gen 4, though I required Star at gen 4. Now that I know my gen 3 boys will be AGA Star soon, I will have to require gold at gen 4 in a couple of months.

So far all my December crop gen 3 colts were aga a borderline A/Star A stallion. I didn’t realize he was borderline until I got my baby up top. So I’ve got 1 AGA mature stallion and so far 3 AGA colts. Still plenty more to look at! But I know the colts that are inf are just barely inf so one of those will become a new mare benchmark I suspect....
