Thank you everyone. I will look when I get home. Currently on the way to the vets with my dog for the 3rd time this week. She got a hematoma on her ear that keeps refilling with blood

@Bandit1119 Oof I'm sorry. My dog had ear hematomas in both ears. Had the first on lanced and let it scar in. When the second one blew up some meds helped scar it in without lancing. Was an ordeal both times. :(

@looper I’m sure I’m just being paranoid and overly cautious about it. thankfully it’s just the one ear but it’s been a week now since it showed up.

We went to the vet Wednesday and he gave us our options but since it wasn’t very large we went for the wait and see. It stayed the same size until Friday when we were at the barn refilling my horse trailer (great aunts house sold so we used my trailer to move her stuff to my mom, brothers and uncles houses so all of my show things and extra blankets buckets and such were taking up half the tack room) just as we were walking to the door to leave the other boarder showed up with their massive basset hound that made a beeline to Jackie and plowed her right into the stall wall because she was leashed and couldn’t get away in time. By the time we got home it was double the size so called and got an appointment for Saturday to drain it (we live 40 min from the vets and it was after 6pm) he wasn’t able to drain it completely as there was a clot.

It slowly started refilling over the weekend and I found a hard lump in the ear that I wasn’t liking (totally being paranoid about it) and she has just been super clingy and cuddly (she’s very cat like and aloof even with her people) and not playing or interacting with her toys and she normally has a hard play session at least once a day. The vet drained it again today and was able to get all the fluid out but said her ear may not stand straight back up like it used to.

The good thing about the experience is that we just switched to this vet in the last year or two (previously had her shots done at the barn when the horses vet came out but he passed away and the new vet doesn’t do dogs) and they’ve handled the whole thing so nicely and aren’t making me feel like I’m being a bad owner or feel like I’m wasting their time.

My last dogs vet office were horrible about that which is why I refused to take Jackie there when I got her and now drive past both town vets offices to go 40 min away

Also I hope your pup recovers soon. An aural hematoma is so uncomfortable...have they talked to you about underlying allergies?

She seems to be feeling better today. Her ear hasn’t refilled any in the last 24 hours.

The vet was sort of stumped because she had clean ears no infection, discolouration, scratches. Checked her body for fleas and looked for hives or other indications of allergies.

He said that if it continues we can do allergy and blood tests to see if that shows anything but she’s 9 years old and really hasn’t been exposed to anything new recently.

I have a feeling she was playing with one of her toys and shook her head too hard or was too close to a wall when she shook. She has been giving her fish squeak toy a bad look or ignoring it whenever she walks by and it’s one of her favourites at moms house.

Her energy is returning. Her ear stayed pretty well drained or is filling much slower and draining again so the bubble cones and goes but much much smaller than it was.

@Flying Stunner I definitely think I have a few too many RS’s picked up! lol I need to go through my PM’s and add the horses I have on hold to my spreadsheet then I will post an updated list of things I’m looking for
