Stone's Holiday Giveaway [Closed]
  • Hello everyone! This last semester has been crazy for me. Thus, I haven't been around much. To celebrate the end of the semester, the upcoming winter and the holiday season, I have decided to give away 1,000,000hbs to five lucky winners. Use it to fund a breeding project, new barns or secret santa gifts, it's totally up to you!

    Tell us what you enjoy about the holidays. If you don't celebrate anything, tell us your favourite, or least favourite, thing about the winter months. Your entry can be as long or short as you like. Just a few words are great, a longer entry is fantastic. Feeling creative? You could write a poem, story, or song. Anything pertaining to the holidays is fair game.

    I may add a few more gifts to this. Maybe a few straw packs or show ponies? Feel free to attach your ideas to your entry.

    Winners will be picked randomly. Entries will close on December 17.

    Entry: I’m not a massive fan of christmas. It tends to be quite a difficult time of year with family issues and I’ve had some pretty rough ones. I am however trying to have more of a positive attitude towards it this year. It’s my first Christmas with my boyfriend and he seems to enjoy it. I enjoy the feel of happiness on Christmas morning and I enjoy the glee of children with new toys etc

    I don't do holidays at all as it's a very hard time for me so I don't tend to do anything or go anywhere as to not unintentionally drag down everyone else's holiday cheer. Just because I'm sad doesn't mean I have to be the Grinch. So I stay home play video games binge on my favorite John Wayne movies and stuff my face with as many cookies as possible at once to avoid getting into my head too much. My significant other doesn't do the holidays either he just gives random gifts a year long and so it's not that big of deal to him that I try not to acknowledge the existence of them. This year has been a huge year of loss for me more so than the past so it makes this year especially hard on me. But when I was younger I couldn't wait for this time of year because I always got a ton of new books and toy horses for gifts and my mom's cut out sugar cookies that were and still are absolutely...*drools*...sorry anyways...So yeah there it is. christmas past.

    Entry: My boyfriend and I really don't celebrate holidays. But I do enjoy spending time with my boyfriend, seeing my mom ( I really don't get to see her often. Maybe once a couple months. ) and baking, I've been trying new recipes and getting more confident with my baking skills. Think I'll be making a pumpkin pie soon!

    Only started playing in July and have been really enjoying this game. It let's me indulge in my life long horse obsession without actually owning any horse's. Really excited to be participating in the SS. Happy Holidays to you and everyone on here.

    Entry: There are several things I am looking forward to this season. This year will be my husbands and I's first Christmas together as a married couple.

    I am excited about my barn family potluck dinner this weekend. The girls and I are gonna be having wine and playing cards against humanity. Fun times ahead!

    The rest of the holiday season is gonna be spent going to family dinners, 4 in total.

    I will also be spending as much time at the barn with my horses as possible (weather permitting, just had an ice storm last night).

    Can't wait to spend time with all my loved ones.

    I really love having the excuse to get together with family. I live over 400 miles (8 hour drive due to city traffic) from my geographically closest family member (my sister whom I've very close to) and 450 miles from my parents (6.5-7 hour drive). My grandparents and extended relatives are even further away, and flying from my location requires at least one connection to get almost anywhere. So popping over to visit family for a weekend isn't really an option. But I love when every one gets together and plays Uno, Fluxx, or Mall Madness, or yells at football/hockey games, or laughs at the baby's antics. I just really miss having family close by.

    To be honest I don't much enjoy the 'holiday' season. We own and run a sheep farm, we don't have hired help and obviously the sheep don't switch off over December! Also it's summer here (our growth/good season is winter) and with the on-going drought we're busier than normal as we also have to supplement the sheep with feed. Some family members find this difficult to understand so it's always a time of fighting off unreasonable expectations and stretching myself to the limit to find time for everything and everyone.

    So in general I try to get as much short rests in as I can, spend time cuddling with my cats and will be escaping to Hunt&Jump wherever possible!

    (thank you for this opportunity)

    I love the music, not just traditional Christmas music but also the classical orchestra music that just seems to feel more wintery. Like Vivaldi and Pachelbel. They were letting me play those at work in November when my coworkers realized that I wasn't talking about Here Comes Santa Claus when I asked for Christmas music. :) Decorating the tree is fun too. I like watching the light dance off the walls and having a good reason to drink hot dark chocolate.

    I have a love/hate relationship with snow...

    Thank you :)

    I absolutely adore Christmas time with my family. We decorate the tree every year together, spend the morning unwrapping gifts, then we eat a great breakfast together. Everyone pitches in, and we all help prepare dinner. It's one of those few times that everyone is together.

    I also love giving gifts. I love thinking of ideas for each person, I love wrapping them with lots of ribbon and bows and a cute tag. My favourite part is when they open it, and I know I've given a good one because of the look on their face.

    One of the thing I look forward to the most about Christmas time is finding that perfect gift for someone. I love finding thoughtful and meaningful gifts for people. Lots of times it's something they might not have thought of when making their list but have said they needed or wanted throughout the year. The pure joy of their face as they open something they weren't expecting is my favorite part of the year. I've never been a fan of making a list for people and wish people would just observe everyday life or know enough about my personality to find a gift I'd enjoy without having to be told what to give me. I think lists take all the surprise and fun out of the giving spirit. SO with all this being said if I get you for Secret Santa I will go off your lists but I will also look at what is in your barn and look at your activity on the forum and try to find something not on your list as a surprise!

    My enjoyment of the season seems to shift year to year. I loved Christmas growing up, it just seemed so magical. Then for about 7 years I ran a large boarding/training facility so there were no breaks no matter the holiday and my extended family never seemed to understand that I had other commitments and it further strained the already complicated relationships. I left running the barn to focus on my newborn daughter and this will be the first year that she is old enough to notice the holiday season. I feel like thanks to her (and the fact that I only have my own ponies to worry about now) I am seeing the magic again. Everything seems exciting and new. The best part of Christmas is that I get to spend it with my mini me.
    I breed for Spotted Drafts that could actually be registered in real life. I like them to be Black, Creamy Black, Gray Black, or Grullo and the horse has to have at least a 2inch square patch of white above the knees/hocks and not on the head. I am hoping to get some really unique color combinations. ID# 50732

    My favorite thing about the holidays is definitely my kid - I haven't been enthusiastic about Christmas for years, but he's three now and has all these thoughts and opinions and he absolutely loves the lights people have started putting up. He's also excited about the Christmas tree my mom-in-law has up, and watching how much he enjoys everything really makes me enjoy it too. :) He's been great at bringing a sense of wonder back to my life!

    I love spending time with my family and see my kiddos excitement on Christmas morning, at all the presents and the tree, this year will be our first Christmas in our new house and I can’t wait. I love decorating cookies and little voices yelling “mommy look Christmas!” Anytime they see Christmas lights on, or a present (or a picture of a present) wrapped and say “thank you!” Even if it’s a commercial or an add :-)) my son started his own tradition last year at two, of making wrapping paper “snow” angels.

    I really enjoy getting some time off work, and spending time with my family, and friends. I was just remembering back to a couple years ago when I was a lifeguard for a pool, every morning there was a group of older ladies that would come soggy jogging (it’s running in the pool with a floating belt). They were all very nice ladies always asking what was going on with us lifeguards, and giving good advice when we asked for it. It was almost like getting 20 extra aunts needles to say it was really fun. Every Christmas around they would start bringing cookies, and other types of goodies to share. They would always make sure that their lifeguards had something, and some would make something special for us. It was one of my favorite jobs.

    I honestly used to really, really abhor the holiday season. I worked retail for years, and it felt like a major money-grubbing season more than anything else. After leaving the retail world, it’s taken me many, many years to really relax and begin to enjoy the holidays for what I believe it actually should be about: family, friends, and giving to those in need. It helps that my mother in law’s birthday is December 25th, so it becomes a lot more about her than about gifts or spending :) I really love that

    To top it off, my now-husband proposed last year, and we decided to get married on December 24th after a request from my MIL that we celebrate our wedding and her birthday around the same time. So, now our first anniversary is coming up! It’s a weird feeling to say that, still (being married, etc) but that, too, has created a really magical feeling surrounding the holiday season for me.

    Ultimately, I’m psyched to continue furthering the season of giving with our Secret Santa this year! I feel very giddy and blessed to have had a great first year here on HaJ, and can’t wait to spread that cheer to my SS recipient :)

    The holidays have been rough in the past...it is when my grandmother died and when my dad took his life many years ago. But we've been trying to make it brighter. This year we are having a special meal for Yule, then presents for Christmas. We have a little bit of decorations up that really brighten the house.

  • Firstly, a huge thank you to everyone who decided to enter. I really enjoyed reading everyone's entries! Everyone who entered will get a choice of an RS from this list, please be mindful that some are older and message me with your choices. If anyone would like a straw bundle, feel free to message me about that as well. The winners are listed below, congratulations.

    @BlueValley
    It sounds like your family always have a great holiday together. Having the entire family together can be such a sweet experience! I also enjoy giving gifts (hence the giveaway and such) everyones reactions really are the best!
    @Drafts26
    Running boarding facilities is hard work, many people do not understand how hard it can be. I am happy to hear it is the first Christmas your daughter can enjoy, I hope you two have a great holiday!
    @Ellesmere022
    My own family has been in the same spot, it is always rough to feel something is "missing" around this time of year. Watching someone you care about enjoy the holiday has always helped massively for me, as I hope your boyfriend does for you.
    @DreamyMeadows
    Hah, don't we wish our animals could take a break around this time. Families will be families, be sure to take care of yourself. I wish you and the sheep a very happy holidays and you a good rest!
    @Mosspearl
    I am sorry to hear of your hardships through the past holidays. Remember, the holidays can be a time to work on yourself as well. I am glad to hear you and your family are having celebrations this year. A bit of brightness can go a long way!

    Of course, I could not respond to everyone, but I would like to wish a happy holidays/season to everyone!

    -with much love,
