Straw notation in Advanced Breeding>Use A Straw
-
I can't really figure out how to find this information, so I'm just gonna ask!
in the "Use A Straw" page, the list of straws has the stallion name, the number straws, and then ... a mysterious number! Example:
Snapdragon 01x (4s) 5
the (4s) is the number straws, I get that ... but what's the 5?

I’m wondering if Ammit is working with the ability for us to make notations on straws? I know it was a project she started and wasn’t able to finish.Thanked by 1Summervine

There are notations on straws as of earlier today when i pulled some. It shows up in brackets []. I don't know what the 5 is though.#28036Thanked by 1Summervine

I believe the number at the end (5 in this case) is how long before it expires. If it isn't set to expire, it shows as a 5 but if a straw has an expiration it shows that number instead. Does that make sense? I tested it as well. I set a straw to expire in 3 years and went to "Use a Straw". All the straws that were NOT set to expire had a 5 but the one straw i had set to expire had a 3Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

huh. There's some weird stuff. On the "use a straw" page, I think you are right, @AHayesHorses . But on the "create an embryo" page, the (5) returns, and the expiration is shown as "-3y". :-?
