Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Recognizing the Vet Techs of HaJ
-
Y'all know what week it is! Love and bless you for all you do and put up with. The tears and sleepless nights. The unmentionable stains and battle scars. The wins and the losses. The pieces of your heart given to other families that you will know forever or never see again. We hear you and see you and thank you!
*Stand* and be recognized! ;) Then report to the Giveaway forum! :)Thanked by 1Alohomora -
I'm a bit late, but I missed this post during Vet Tech week. Somehow I survived last week despite having to step up into new duties because my head tech is out for 8 weeks for hand surgery. I'm also bottle feeding 3 kittens and working on training my own puppy.
Thank you for the recognition! Sometimes it feels like a thankless job. I think I had a breakdown my second year because it seemed like all the animals hated me and all of the clients thought I was in it for the money despite the fact I wasn't making much more than minimum wage. I'm glad I stuck with it though. My practice feels like a family and my favorite patients/clients help me get through some of the toughest times.Thanked by 1Looper -
@WickedPonies and @ApollosLegacy
Y'all are welcome and you each have a couple of show babies waiting for you in Looper's Loosas :) I coulda sworn there were more of us though.

Yea I think there is lol thank you @Looper I appreciate it!Breeder of the tallest drafts

I totally missed seeing this post too! Vet tech week was really busy for me so I wasn't online much. My workplace is awesome though and totally spoiled us all week long.
Highlights of the week were definitely these two things:
- Getting an intrathecal epidural (we aim for the subarachnoid space but if we get intrathecal we just use less drugs) on a super fat but still tiny Chihuahua (~6# but probably should have been closer to 4#) who was in for a femur fracture.
- Getting called over to do a difficult intubation in a cat with a mass/swollen airway and successfully and quickly capturing that airway!
Happy vet tech week to everyone! You are all amazing.ID: 40723Thanked by 1Looper -
Well I just signed up to play on this server. I'm not a vet techs any longer, but my active duty service in the Army was spent as a vet tech. When I got out and moved back home to NM, I was no longer allowed to work as a vet tech because this state required an AVMA accredited program to get certified. But the state didn't have an accredited program and didn't allow for experience as a substitute. So I had to find another line of work or move back out of the state.Thanked by 1Looper

How about full on vets, do they count? 'Cause I know we have at LEAST 2! Hooray for Cheers and Monsterpony!
-
Thank you @Ren and @Hobo14! :) Will be posting your horses sometime tonight!
@Hobo14 thank you for your service! Most of my family was Army at some point. I had to take the program in CO and move back home. Wasn't easy, and I hope they can develop one in NM eventually.
@Ren congrats! :) We're just starting to use locals more and I got sent to IVECCS to learn the blocks. I like the dental blocks. :) That's incredible that you got a good stick on the little potato shark!
@ConfluenceFarms, it was National Tech Week last week but definitely want to give a big Thank you! to @Cheers and @Monsterpony for being among our courageous guides and leaders in a field that needs so much compassion, patience, and resilience! :D
@WickedPonies, now that I can think straight enjoy the bottle babies and stick with it! :D Just don't forget to ask for help if you get overwhelmed. When I was doing kitten raising there were multiple nights I had to beg coworkers for respite care cause I just needed that full nights sleep after a hard work day. :) -
Oh, shoot! It was last week? I gotta call up a vet tech friend and apologize for missing it!
-
@Looper, I'm in New Mexico also. So you know what I'm talking about. I went from a full tech in the Army to only being allowed to be the techs assistant. I grew up in Roswell, already had a Bachelor degree in Animal Science plus 4 years of working actively as a vet tech and none of that was good enough for the state. I also had a year to wait until Hubby also got out of the service so we could make a plan on what to do after. So leaving the state to go to school was not a good option. But I still have my own animals to take care of so I still keep up my knowledge and practice.

We love you, vet techs! Thank you for everything you do to keep our pets healthy and their humans sane. Well, as sane as possible—sometimes we don’t offer you a lot to work with : P
Hobo14, that is really frustrating that NM won’t let you just take the VTNE. You would think if they want to insist upon an AVMA program, they could at least offer one. I know Cedar Valley College in Dallas does offer an online/distance learning option, so you could stay where you are, but it is irritating to spend time and money for a program that reiterates what you already know. I helped my friend study throughout her program (she just passed her VTNE last month on the first try, YAY!!!), and I was mostly very impressed with the curriculum and the instructors. The college administration gets a meh from me.
My dream job in another life is to be an LVT. I really respect and admire the hard work y’all go through. Keep being awesome, everyone!Looking for Appaloosas? Check out my Riata account.
You matter to me!
You are valued, you are important, and you are loved! ❤️ -
Thank you @Cheers and @Monsterpony for being a part of our (VTs) support system!! Today was a day that really rekindled my love of our career. Today I got to monitor anesthesia for a skunk neuter- yep lol our new doctor has a pet skunk named Stark and he got his nibblets removed. He was so blasted precious!! And I got to place his catheter and ET tube! First try on both- really made my day and I wanted to share with friends who would understand my enthusiasm!! Thanks for always being there to share success and disappointments everyone, love you!Breeder of the tallest draftsThanked by 1Looper

Im little or a lot late. Im vet tech although I step out of the field. I was heavy in the upper hunter jumper / dressage field of work. I went with the horses form cavorliy to tower city to ny central part to Wellington every show in between. I ment horses only dreams are made of. Even rode Hilltop and have a few pieces of tail form American Phoarah(hauled him once with Johnson Horse). It was awesome but it worn off fast.
I couldn't stand seeing so many horses suffering. A lot them are in pain and are pushed to keep showing. They lived in stall. If they where turned out It was a stall side paddock alone. It broke my heart. I had to leave. Yes they lived in the most beautiful barns around the world but they where far form being a horse.
Plus all the spoil little barts. Just couldn't take if no more.
I hope you guys had a better time at this job then I did. It a tough job with little love form people. It's hard seeing a animal in need but you can't do anything. Hats off to you guys still doing it.
Now I'm a farmer/driver and it much more peaceful life. I let my 2 boys have best horesy life I can give them. They don't know how lucky they are but that's ok. -
Love you @MakeMeABird. Never too late to get to know another member of the veterinary family :)
@Hobo14 , @Ren and @MakeMeABird y'all have show babies waiting for you in Looper's Loosas. :) Sorry it took so long.
@Hobo14, sorry I didn't phrase that properly. :) I'm in the Mid Atlantic area, not NM, but I do get it as we didn't have a program when I left to take the one in CO and all the what you could and couldn't do was certainly a scrambled mess without certification. We have one in state now but it's still not perfect. A lot of my coworkers are taking the online certification program instead.
And Happy Holidays everyone! :) -
That was always my dream job. I have always wanted to be a vet. Went to school to start it but quit once I had children. I am thinking of trying again. Not sure if anyone would hire someone my age though...lol
I have friends that are vet techs and vets. To everyone here that is a s well Happy Vet Tech Week. It is late.
