How long do you give someone to pickup a horse?
  • I auctioned off a horse nearly 3 weeks ago and the player that made the winning bid hasn't actually logged in since the auction ended. I know that RL happens, but i did the auction to move that horse.

    Do I wait any longer?
Do I offer the horse the second highest bidder?

  • Sorry for the trouble and for being in limbo.. that must be frustrating!

Real life happens however 3 weeks is more than generous.. I would probably ping the winner with a PM reminding them of the sale, dollars offered, and give him/her a deadline of maybe.. 24-48 hours before they "default" and horse goes to the next highest bidder. I would think that is more than fair considering you already waited this long for a valuable horse to get moved though.

  • Wow! You are way more patient than me! 3 weeks? :-O I give them 24 hours unless they make previous arrangements. I also refuse to "hold him til the auction runs". If you want lay-away talk to WalMart!

(OK, so, yeah, this is one of my pet peeves! do NOT get me started on horses for sale, but no price is listed!)

  • Same here Confluence! I have had more than one person get snippy because I did not want to hold a horse for several days. And they don't even ask, they just assume it's OK. If you aint got the cash, don't bid. Or at the very least ask before the auction ends. I have asked about some very few myself (GMTd foundations), but those were up for straight sale, and I would never just assume it is OK.

  • Thanks guys! I'll be offering to the next bidder, and definitely making it clear in future sales that I will not be waiting for this long again.

  • My last auction on HJ1 I kept the horse for 3 weeks but it was more my own fault for not following up earlier.

I stuck it in the buddy chat and forgot about it until a few weeks later when I was rearranging horses and stumbled across it in an empty barn. I had also talked with the player a few times in between because they had bought some genes for me and we arranged payment (if I had looked at which horse was still in my barn earlier I would have realized it was the same player and arranged for them to throw a horse in the same chat room and pick up the other horse while they were at it lol)

Normally I put the auction horse in my chat room for pick up and pm them. if it’s still there in a week I send a reminder and if no response reauction or sell it

  • If someone asks me, especially newbies, I'll usually wait a day or two for them to pick up a horse, but anything more than that seems kind of rude to me, especially if they bid high and win then suddenly don't have the hbs and need a week or two. (Yes, I've been told that. No, I wasn't happy.) It also bugs me when I see someone bidding high in one post while in another talking about having no hbs. If they have no hbs, they shouldn't be running up the bid on a horse they can't afford. It's a pet peeve of mine.

I personally try not to bid unless I have the hbs on hand or will have them that night with show bonus. I've had to just watch a lot of horses go to someone else because I didn't have the money, in game and in real life. That's how auctions work, you can't go in and bid and then tell the auctioneer you'll pay in a week. They'll never let you bid again. Lol

I know real life gets in the way, sometimes my net is horrible or I end up in the hospital unexpectedly, but I still try not to just leave anyone hanging. If I don't pick up a horse, usually that means I just don't know I actually won it. :)

  • I'm pretty lenient.. I'll give them 48 hours to pick the horse up, then I will message them to remind them. If they request more time, I will grant that.
I have no issue holding a horse until the next auction (or two) runs, BUT the person has to communicate that to me.

But 3 weeks without any prearrangement is way too long.

  • You could try looking up their ID number in the facebook page's pinned post and asking them over chat if they still want to play? 3 weeks is a long time to wait. :/
  • If they haven’t logged in since the auction ended, and it’s not a newer account, I would send a message. If after 24-48 hours there is no response, I would offer to the next highest bidder. If it’s a newer account (couple months old max), I would probably just offer it to the next bidder.
  • 3 weeks seems long, yeah. But I've had people take at least a week to tell me a horse i BOUGHT was ready to be picked up. So it seems like HJ2 is very mixed in expectations. Based on that, I'd say don't make assumptions, just message and be clear about your expectations.

I get really busy during my week, so if I don't get a PM that day when a horse I've bought has been listed in a chat for me to pick up, there's a good chance it will be a few days at least before I can log in again. I'm sorry if I've made anyone wait more than they wanted to :/

  • @Summervine I think there is a difference between someone who is known in the community versus someone who is newer. Just my feelings on it. But you are right, sometimes it’s not always communicated and people get busy. Life happens.

  • I sometimes forget that I bid on a horse and have appreciated the seller messaging me.

  • I thought this had to do with me. Lol But If it ever is. I'm neither fixing something one of the Diesel Fords, riding horses, uptown, etc. Or I'm sleeping. Lol

  • I have been know to forget about my winnings also. I appreciate the reminder that you all give me.
Sometimes my health problems only allow me on to check to see if Ammit has given a RS.
Usually I try to be on every day and will see if I have messages.
  • I haven't been able to get on a lot lately, and definitely lose track of topics. If it's ever me just send me a PM!! And I sincerely apologise if it was me!!! It won't usually be from lack of funds
  • Just went through topics I'd posted on, and yes looks like it was me. So very sorry about that, I didn't know I'd won. I do see PMs but never the pinged @ tag. But I haven't been on, again I do apologise!
  • @kintara It was not you in this instance. :)
