    Oooh, that is really interesting. Appy can do some strange stuff so it might be that interacting with it?

    I agree, that shade in the mane often happens with appaloosa "bronzing". And the lack of sooty is probably a factor too -- the sire's belly is kind of that same orangy color, but he has one copy of sooty which makes his top line darker.
