Late Spaying and Gelding

    I know spaying and gelding gives a horse a training boost, which will help make them a better shower than their intact peers. If a horse has already leveled off, do they gain any benefit from spaying or gelding? I understand that leveled off horses still get small increases from training - will the size of that small increase be made larger by gelding/spaying, or is it already fixed?

    I think when a horse has leveled off it won’t gain much from spaying. You want to catch them before. A levelled off horse will still earn something towards their show score but it gets less and less all the time.

    That being said I typically go through and spay my 20 year olds just to kick them off the breeding lists so it stops saying I have breedable mares in my pastures when I don’t lol
