2 contests- Scavenger hunt AND make your own gene! Fabulous prizes- open to new and old players
-
Welcome! I am so excited to be hosting this and am THRILLED to have this opportunity to “pay it forward”. This is a fantastic community and when I put the call out for donations and prizes, the community responded in an AMAZING way. First and foremost though, I want to give a huge THANK YOU to these donors who all chipped in with their valuable time and resources: Cheers, FallenShadows714, Dinascar and Dinachill, Obsidian Kitsune, ConfluenceFarms, DHSHowPonies, PaintsStables, and Pfrsue.
There are 2 contests. Please pay attention to the requirements for each contest. Newer players below 6 months are eligible for BOTH contests. Older players with accounts more than 6 months old will be eligible for contest 2 ONLY.
Contest 1: This is for players with accounts younger than 6 months only please.
This is a scavenger hunt/answer the riddle contest! There are 20 questions- using the search engines (located under Community tab “Search Horses” and “search users”) the forum search function, and even the buddy chat list (don’t need to be a member but do HIGHLY encourage joining Beginner Barn if not already a member wink wink nudge), you will figure out the answer to my questions. Players get a point for each correct question and in case of a tie, a tiebreaker will be done via random generator. An example of something I might ask: Clue- Twinkle twinkle little star how I wonder you look like on black and the answer I would be looking for would be “black based horse with either 1 or 2 copies of nexus”. Thinking outside the box is encouraged.
Clue 1- Pretty in Pink. Be mine. You are exceptional.
Clue 2- I need to know how old my mare can be to start breeding.. where can I find this info?
Clue 3- One of a kind foundation warhorse with chinchilla, cream, dun, silver, champagne, and roan (phew that was long)
Clue 4- Oldest horse(s) on the server
Clue 5- Who has the ID number 1? (hint-horse search page)
Clue 6- What is the maximum height of horses on this game?
Clue 7- Auctions are held on what days?
Clue 8- I love Friday the 13th!
Clue 9- Number of homozygous recessive varnish horses in the game
Clue 10- Who do I go to if I want a Perfect Foundation and only have 2750 dollars to spend? (name and ID please)
Clue 11- Player who owns the Silfur drafts
Clue 12-6th place top producing Tobiano mare
Clue 13- Highest PT score for a horse on the game
Clue 14- How many GMT tokens total would it take to add 2 copies of Satin, 1 copy of w8, take off 1 copy of sooty then add sooty plus and turn the stud into a mare?
Clue 15- What did LookingGlass contribute to the game and is pinned for new players to read?
Clue 16- I am paying my friend ObsidianKitsune 8 million dollars to put 2 copies of the same gene on.. what gene could I potentially be wanting? (hint look up conversion rate for real money to HBs then look at gene pricing on the forum)
Clue 17- LallyHop likes to collect what kind of horses?
Clue 18- Who is the owner of the Beginner Barn Chat?
Clue 19- Where can you find a picture example of the “White Factors Risk” chart?
Clue 20- True or False- Kit Promoter is a fantasy gene.
*Several of those answers will change depending on the month. Your answer, when posted on that day, will be marked as correct if it matches the data available on that day regardless of if it changes the next day. Please do not change your answers once submitted the first time!

Contest 2: This is open to BOTH new and old players alike. Time to unleash your creative side! This is in NO WAY endorsed by Ammit and will NOT be used to change anything in-game. There will be one winner for this contest.
Design your own gene that would go on a horse! Go out there and look at animals, plants, food, the deserts to the mountains to the oceans and everything in between. Describe what your gene would look like on a horse in heterozygous and homozygous form and what if anything else it would take to show (a certain gene combo, shows in the absence of…). What does it look like on the different color coats? Be as creative and descriptive as possible! EDIT: This gene can be a fantasy or natural gene. Whatever rows your boat.
This will be judged by several people to ensure impartiality, but points will be awarded based on effort, creativity, and thoroughness in describing your gene. It could be a color, a pattern, or combination. Think outside the box and go wild!
A quick example could be a peacock mantis shrimp! In heterozygous form, it does not show regardless of color but on a bay-based horse in homozygous form, the red body is turned to a bright tealy green with faint red brindling and the black points (legs, mane, tail, muzzle) have rainbow colors ranging from purple to neon pink in an ombre gradient. On the horse’s neck area, the teal green darkens to a neon green and there are yellow blotches on the horse’s cheeks. Eyes are a pinkish color. If dun is added, the colors are diluted to a pastel palette and so on.. ON a black base, the colors are.. and so on. Bring in those fantastical colors and patterns! Drawing pictures is highly encouraged but please don’t use copyrighted pictures or attempt to pass off another person’s drawings as your own. Having graphics will NOT add points to your score so don’t fret if you are not artistically inclined or don’t have the time.
The winner will receive
*Custom GMT horse (1-2 alleles)
*tack pack (choose from following: Dreaming Down Under, Summer Refresh, Trail Ride, or Knight’s Tale)
*250k cash to use as seen fit (perhaps a shiny new barn or IVs for GMTs?)
To repeat: the winner of this contest WILL NOT have their new gene input into the game. This is NOT endorsed by Ammit and she will NOT use the winner’s idea for a new gene. Thank you!
Entries for both contests are DUE by July 29th at rollover. Timestamps will be monitored closely! This will give me time to get everyone tabulated and judges time to discuss winners. Winner will be publicly announced by July 30. Winners will be contacted afterwards privately by several donors and I.
If you are interested in donating to either one of these contests, please contact TheBlueMoors directly through PM. Donations of any kind will be gladly accepted!
FallenShadows714 has graciously offered entry prize straws for everyone who enters either contest! Fallen will send out a straw to entries at the beginning of the August breeding season. Links to her lovely boys will be placed here later.

Name of the gene: Jellyfish (im so unique, i know ;) )
Background info:
The reason only some of a jellyfish’s cells glow has to do with how each kind of cell uses the genes it has. The cells that glow turn on the green fluorescent protein (GFP) gene naturally found in jellyfish DNA. The non-glowing cells keep this gene off. (in our case, the dilution genes cause GFP to glow)
(This gene was based on actual jellyfish genetics, but i did change it up quite a bit. )
This is a fantasy gene, that would be a dilution. The alleles will be gfpgfp when homozygous, and GFPgfp (or gfpGFP) when het. It would almost be like watercolor, but certain genes give off certain colors. (there are guaranteed colors for certain genes, so you could easily breed for the particular color assigned to it). GFP would be dominant, so even if the horse was het gfp their colors would show. Other dilution genes would determine the colors. Soft spots would show on the horses stomach, if the gfp gene is homozygous. The spots would be colored according to the genes listed below. The mane and tails will turn white when GFP is present.
Pearl-Blue
Cream-Yellow
C- red
-----
CprlCr- the color would be a very light fluorescent Green, white belly with soft yellow spots (Cream=Yellow, cream is dominant)

CprlC- the color would be a slightly darker fluorescent magenta, white belly with soft magenta spots
CrCr- the color would be a very light fluorescent yellow (the lightest color), with a white belly and soft yellow spots

Gene:Curly
Would be a coat texture and not a color in and of itself. It's kind of a combination of the "common" Curly mutation found in the American Bashkir Curly and the none KRT25 (see below) Curly found in the Curly Jim horses in terms of appearance.
Het Curly would create loose curls in the body hair.
Hom Curly would create tight/compact curls in the body hair and curly manes and tails.
Absence of Curly is regular coat.
No version would impact color, though patterns would be impacted by the coat curls and would be less "crisp", especially in the Homozygous form. I imagine this could make some really cool interactions with Nexus and Wrong Warp.
One type of Curly has been found to be located on the 11th chromosome, ECA 11, specially the Keratin 25 gene. It would show as KRT25(KRT) for the curly dominant allele and KRT25(krt) for the recessive (non-curly) allele. Curly coats have apparently arisen several times in horse genetics.
IRL, Curly manes and tails can be prone to breakage, so you wouldn't be able to use the Long and Luscious Tack Pack on a curly horse.
I am not an artistic, so I won't subject anyone to stick figure curly and non-curly horses, but here is a link if anyone wants to learn more.

Gene: Patched Chimera
They've determined that (at least sometimes) the brindle pattern in horses is because said horse is actually a chimera, and another way that chimerism could be expressed is in larger, solid patches of the different coat colors.
This gene would operate similarly to how Mosaic does in-game now - not really something you can "breed for" consistently, more just a "surprise you got this neat thing" or something that would come with certain RS. However, unlike with Mosaic, with this gene present, there would be two separate sets of the E & A genes (for the sake of simplicity, just those rather than two entire gene sets) and each of those colors would express in wide swaths of color.
If the horse had any Kit genes, Sps, etc, that add spots/patches/patterns, those would only be expressed on one of the base colors, but if there were two, they could each express on one of the base colors (all determined by position - so if a horse was EE aa/Ee Aa - LlpL, they would have appaloosa markings on black, and then solid bay for the rest of their coat, or if they were EE aa/ee AA - KitrKitw8, then they would be part blue roan, and part white-spotted chestnut).
When being bred, only one of the sets of the E & A genes would come into play, and it would be the same set every time, so in the example of an EE aa/ee AA chimera, either they would be able to pass on E & a OR they'd be able to pass on e & A, and it wouldn't change between breedings, because most-likely the reproductive cells would come from one of the two original entities composing the chimera.
This example looks to be chestnut & black:ID 49863 | Breeding wild bay drafts with TE & SNF | Muddling my way through bootstrapping -
@ConfluenceFarms Oh, I figured it would be nightmare with the generator. So hard to make textures read well even on non-dynamic art. Just a just-for-fun/how would the mechanics work sort of thing.~Purveyor of the finest riding horses in Rakia~

Gene: Ginger (denoted X^O or X^o)
This gene is based off of the O (Orange) gene, which is responsible for inhibiting eumelanin and activating pheomelanin, which causes the orange/ginger tabby and tortoiseshell color in cats. In cats, the O gene is co-dominant, meaning that the contributions of both alleles are visible in the phenotype. Where this gets interesting is that the O gene is sex linked on the X chromosome. This explains why only female cats are tortoiseshell, and why only 20% of ginger tabbies are female.
Now for the in-game explanation!
The ginger gene functions to inhibit eumelanin and activate pheomelanin, much like the agouti gene. It is co-dominant with and sex-linked.
Because the gene is on the X chromosome, male horses would only be able to carry one copy (X^OY). Males carrying the ginger gene and females homozygous for the ginger gene (X^OX^O) will display the "ginger" color. They will express pheomelanin only on any base color (the exact shade will be influenced by darkening and dilution genes). The body will be red or orange, darker on the topline and lighter on the underbelly. There will be a whitish patch on the chest. The horse will have darker tabby stripes all over. The mane and tail will be darker red with lighter frosting (similar to dun). Hooves may be striped, and there will be darker freckling around the muzzle, ears, eyes, and genitals which will increase as the horse ages. Eyes will range from green to yellow to copper.
Males carrying the heterozygous recessive variant of ginger (X^o) will have no changes in coat color. They cannot pass the ginger color on to their offspring and the ginger gene will not be denoted in their genetic test.
Females who are heterozygous for the ginger gene (X^OX^o) will display the "tortoiseshell" color. They will express both pheomelanin and eumelanin due to codominance. Their coats will be patches of base color and ginger tabby similar to a tortoiseshell cat. The shade of tortoiseshell would also be partially controlled by darkining and dilution genes. Eyes will be green, yellow, or copper.
This gene would be super fun for many reasons. Inheritance-wise, because the gene is sex-linked, all fillies out of a ginger stud and a plain-colored mare would be tortoiseshell. Plus, imagine the combinations with watercolor, nexus, chinchilla, or mushroom! Or even open genes like silver, cream, pearl, or dun! Or Tortoiseshell with sabino or KitM... I know this contest is all for fun and games but... please, Ammit? [-O<
Here are some examples of how different colors might look (Edit* I finally got around to making better ones myself).

Gene Name: Flea Gene
This gene is based of the real life coat pattern FleaBitten. This gene interacts with grey only and also varies greatly depending if the Flea gene is Homozygous or Het and also if the horse is Homozygous or Het Grey!
On a grey horse, It should look like little flecks/dots varying in size and frequency of the number of Flea markings. The Flea markings colour will be of the horses origional base colour. Ie Bay, Black, Chestnut, Palomino etc.
I suggest it should be hidden gene similar to Dp.
All horses may carry it, but only when they have a grey gene does it show.
It should be on a separate allele as the current theory is such.
I also beleive it should be dominant, and the size and frequency based on being either Hetrozygous for Fle or Homozygous for Flea. Also the size and frequency of the flea markings are based on either being Hetrozygous Grey or Homozygous Grey.
Hetrozygous Grey horses should display an increase in size and frequency even going so far as blood patches in rare cases, as hypothesized in real life.
Homozygous Grey, should reduce the size and Frequency of the Flea Markings.
Examples:
~Hetrozygous Grey and Het Flea gene: Medium to Large Flea markings, Medium to Large Frequency
~Hetrozygous Grey and is Homozygous for Flea: Large Flea Markings to Solid Patches, with Large Intensity and Extreme Frequency resembling in one or more blood patches (ie bloody shoulder is a possibility)
~Hetrozygous Grey and Recessive for Flea: No Flea Markings
~Homozygous Grey and Het Flea: Minimal to Light sized Flea markings, Minimal to Light Frequency
~Homozygous Grey and Homozygous Flea: Light to Medium Flea markings, Light to Medium Frequency
~Homozygous Grey and recessive for Flea: No Flea Markings

Gene: Paint Splatter, Inverted Appy, and Cyber
I actually had a couple gene ideas! :D
First Gene:
I absolutely love white spotting genes! I would love to have a white spotting gene that resembles splatters of paint. It would show up as heterozygous or homozygous and on all base colors. It would basically act just like the other white spotting genes. I would either make a separate allele for it or have it on the KIT alleles. The amount of splatters would be determined by white factor and it would be a "safe" white spotting gene that is not lethal with others.
Second Gene:
The second gene, going along with the white spotting, would be a type of inverted Appy. However, because appys varnish out, this gene would not be specifically appaloosa related. It would be a separate gene altogether. It also would show on all base colors and as het or hom. The gene appears as dynamic white spots on the horse's base coat. These spots sort of resemble birdcatcher spots.
Birdcatcher Spots:
Inverted Appy Gene:
Third Gene:
Lastly (for now lol) is the Cyber Gene! This gene causes circuit-like patterns on the horses body and can come in a variety of colors throughout the spectrum. It would be in the Nexus family. Het just shows the circuit pattern whereas homozygous would change the coat to black (like Wrong warp). It would interact with Nexus, Axiom, and Wrong Warp accordingly. Base color does not affect the pattern or coat color in homozygous form.

Gene: Lacing
So lacing is a pattern that can be found naturally in horses. It reminds me of the pattern of lightning maroon clown fish. Its a pattern that can spread over time as a horse ages. I think that it would either be an independent hidden gene or a modifier of the appaloosa gene family. I'm partial to the appaloosa option because I'm a sucker for appys on this game. the extent of the lacing would depend on the white factor of the horse.
Please excuse my crude example

Name: SpectrumLong ago on the sands of a great desert lived a Bedouin chieftain by the name of Ahmed and his tribe. In the tents of Ahmed was his most prized possession, a beautiful grey mare who was renowned throughout the desert as the fleetest and most beautiful horse in the world. Many people coveted the mare, and kings and chieftains had tried to acquire her, but Ahmed could not be persuaded to part with his beloved mare.
Ahmed decided to breed his mare, and searched the desert for a suitable mate for her. After a time, the mare was bred to the premier stallion in the Sultan's stable. Months went by and the time for the mare to foal grew near.
Riding across the desert one day, several miles from his tents, Ahmed was seen by a group of robber Bedouins. Fearing that he would lose his beloved mare as well as his life, Ahmed turned and raced toward his tents, knowing in his heart that the mare, heavy in foal, could never out-distance the bandits. The mare seemed to realize that she was running for her master's life, and slowly, very slowly, she began to gain ground on her pursuers. Shots rang out and bullets peppered the sand around them as the distance gradually widened.
They were almost out of rifle range when at last a shot rang out. A bullet pierced Ahmed's heart, and he fell forward over the neck of his beloved mare. The mare never slackened her stride, and carried her master back to his tents on their final ride together.
Ahmed's people gathered around the mare and removed his lifeless body from her back. Down one of her shoulders, his blood had dried a nasty brown in the desert heat. There the mark remained, for no one could remove it.
That night in the tent of her dead master, the mare foaled. The foal was acclaimed by all as a perfect specimen of the Arabian breed, and on his shoulder was the same rusty red mark that his dam bore.
And so it came to pass that every great horse descended from that mare carried the mark of the bloody shoulder, and it was a thing greatly prized in the desert.
"Bloody Shoulder" Markings
My idea for a new natural gene is the Bloody Shoulder. This is a rare real-life somatic mutation that only appears in grays. When this happens, parts of the horse's coat 'turn off' their gray gene(s), revealing the color underneath.
The Bloody Shoulder is commonly associated with Arabians, where the mutation is thought to have originated. However, it has also been found in thoroughbreds and other breeds with Arabian linage. Despite many myths about the gene, it can appear on a horse of any base color (chestnut, bay, black, etc) under the grey, and appears on all types of greys too (dapple, flea-bitten, steel, etc).
The location of the mutated gene is not known and the level/method of inheritability is not well understood.
In spite of the name, the marking can actually appear anywhere on the body. They are very hard to see on young horses, but become more apparent/prominent as the horse ages and 'greys out.' Here are some real-life examples of Bloody Shoulder horses:
So how would I implement this in the game? Well first of all, a horse has to have at least one copy of G for this gene to appear (duh). There would be no difference in phenotype of a heterozygous (Gg) vs a homozygous (GG) grey. If a horse does not have at least one G and is not grey, it would still carry the gene - it just would not show (just like a chestnut carrying Silver).
The marking would look like reverse dapples - just 'holes' in the grey where the underneath colors peaks through, along with some darkening in the middle of the dapple. Just for funsies, I would make this gene 'stack' the same way creme does - IE a homozygous horse will show increased effects of a gene vs. a heterozygous horse.
In my research, I've seemed to notice a pattern: the places these markings appear are actually somewhat similar to where tobiano appears - usually the shoulder, over the hips or on the face (Bloody shoulder is a LOT more random than tobiano, though). So horse that is heterozygous would have possible markings in these areas:
A heterozygous Bloody Shoulder horse might look like this (please excuse my disappointing dapples):
Now, a homozygous horse would have bigger/more markings. So I mapped out these possible areas for homozygous Bloody Shoulder markings (laserbeams not included):
Therefore, a homozygous horse might look like:
Now here's the fun part. I would NOT have Bloody Shoulder show after gene testing a horse - it would be a 'hidden' gene the same way DP, KP, and a few other genes are. I think doing this could increase the 'value' of the grey gene in the game; right now it just feels like any horse with a G gene automatically loses most of its value. So, hopefully something like this could increase the value of grey - or at least amount of people purposefully breeding for grey as they try to find those hidden Bloody Shoulders. :)
I also think this would be fun to mix with a few other fantasy genes like watercolor, nacre, wrong warp etc. Anything that uniformly changes body color would be cool to see with this, really.
Please let me know if you have any questions! And thanks for coming to my TED talk. -

Gene: Snow Leopard gene
SLSL= homogeneous
slsl = heterozygous
Non-lethal
This gene is based off of snow leopards. So obviously they will look like snow leopards. The snow leopard's fur is whitish to gray with black spots on head and neck, with larger rosettes on the back, flanks, and tail. The belly is whitish. Its eyes are pale green or grey in color.
Horse that are heterozygous (slSL/SLsl) for the gene will have the rosettes spots on their back, in a slightly darker shade of whatever their main coat color is. The spots will not descend down their bodies more than halfway. They will appear on any color horse.
Horses that are Homogeneous for the gene (SLSL) who are any color besides black based, will appear as though they are heterozygous. So chestnuts (ee) and bay (A, A+, At) will only have the spots on their back.
Homogeneous SLSL horses who are black, will express the gene completely. Their body will be a soft misty gray white color. The spots and rosettes will cover their whole bodies, spot size is determined by hidden factors, some will be quite large while others may be smaller. The spots can be anywhere from black to silver, the spots shade is determined by other genes that may be present, (cream, dun, silver, ect). Roan will make the undercoat two toned using white and silver. White spotting genes will simply make an absence of spots wherever they are present, a Tobiano may have no spots on his shoulders, while more subtle spotting may be lost in the white undercoat. The mane and tale will be the same shade as the spots. Eyes will be soft gray, green or blue, they will not be brilliant colored.
I’m completely hopeless with artwork, so here's a link to snow leopards.

Clue 2- I need to know how old my mare can be to start breeding.. where can I find this info?
On the FAQ (https://hj2.huntandjump.com/faq.php) under "2 How do I get horses?" it mentions "Mares cannot have foals until they are 4 years old."
Clue 3- One of a kind foundation warhorse with chinchilla, cream, dun, silver, champagne, and roan (phew that was long)
PalesInComparisonRS Hmchn
Clue 4- Oldest horse(s) on the server
S GP Nedra PF, but S Smacking Lips is only one day younger.

18 hh
Clue 7- Auctions are held on what days?
Tuesday, Thursday, Sunday 6am-8pm
Clue 8- I love Friday the 13th!
Freaky Friday Rank Special - hom DP, hom sooty, hom frame.
Clue 9- Number of homozygous recessive varnish horses in the game
"Since varnish has been disproved, it will be removed from the game once Appaloosa receives an update." - I'm unclear on whether that's happened or not, but there doesn't seem to be a distinct gene to search for either way.
Clue 10- Who do I go to if I want a Perfect Foundation and only have 2750 dollars to spend? (name and ID please)
Foundation Rescue! (ID 13)
Clue 11- Player who owns the Silfur drafts
SilverAleki (ID 7084)
Clue 12-6th place top producing Tobiano mare

Clue 13- Highest PT score for a horse on the game
Dark Corvett Rises & 4049517 both have PT scores of 14.3-Consistent.
Clue 14- How many GMT tokens total would it take to add 2 copies of Satin (40 per - 80), 1 copy of w8 (20), take off 1 copy of sooty (1?) then add sooty plus (20) and turn the stud into a mare (1)?
122 GMT (that's expensive!)
Clue 15- What did LookingGlass contribute to the game and is pinned for new players to read?
I found a post by ConfluenceFarms referencing/reposting an older post by LookingGlass called "General Information: Showing vs. Breeding"... and I found a link that doesn't work that's supposed to go to a post from LookingGlass about "the new papering system" but that's all I've got.
Clue 16- I am paying my friend ObsidianKitsune 8 million dollars to put 2 copies of the same gene on.. what gene could I potentially be wanting? (hint look up conversion rate for real money to HBs then look at gene pricing on the forum)
By my calculation, you'd get 2 million GMTs for 8 million actual dollars, and that's way too many for two genes... Or buying from roving gene sale, if it was up, there's Ice 2 & Ice 10 that are $40 each, but they're the most expensive, and 8 million is still way too much for that. I feel like I must be misunderstanding something, but I did see a forum post where someone was saying they'd pay 4 million (presumably HBs) per to add Ice genes to some of their horses.
Clue 17- LallyHop likes to collect what kind of horses?
Lallyhop's signature says "ISO any and all Silver Pocket Watches," so those. There are mostly Drafts & Cobs in Lallyhop's barns, as well.
Clue 18- Who is the owner of the Beginner Barn Chat?
ConfluenceFarms
Clue 19- Where can you find a picture example of the “White Factors Risk” chart?
https://hj2.huntandjump.com/faq.php - under "Helpful Hints"
Clue 20- True or False- Kit Promoter is a fantasy gene. True.ID 49863 | Breeding wild bay drafts with TE & SNF | Muddling my way through bootstrapping -

Contest 2
Id: 48800
Name: Looper
Gene: Foliant- Fo/F- Fo is Dominant
My gene creates fantasy foliage colors and patterns. Interactions with other genes will cause the colors to vary and it behaves differently when Het or Hom. A horse's age will also affect the expression of this gene.
Foals will present green coats like Hom Foliant regardless of whether Hom or Het. The effect of Fo weakens as a horse ages, allowing base coat colors to show through in Het Fo in increasing strength from the age of 4 yo to 18 yo. After the age of 18 all horses surviving rollover will fade to brown regardless of Hom or Het Fo.
The Hom form (FoFo) will be designated as the color Evergreen. Hom will always result in a pine needle pattern in a shade of green governed by the Black and Bay genes.
E will cause a very dark green while e will cause a very light green.
In addition to adding base color, A will govern the saturation of the green, A being lower Sat, At medium sat, A+ High Sat, a Highest Sat.
The Black and Bay genes will continue to govern Dark/Light and Saturation with the Colors which come when Het Foliant is present.
Starting at the age of 4 the other genes a horse is carrying will being to show or affect the color presented in Het Fo. Additionally the coat pattern will be an assortment of deciduous leaves.
Maples
A will appear Light Red
A+ will appear Red
At will appear Orange
a will appear Purple
Aspen
Ccr, when paired with ee in the presence of Fo, will cause the coat to become a shade of yellow
Telperion
Het Cprl will cause the coat to go white; Het or Hom Fo will be lethal in the presence of Hom Cprl or Het Cprl with any combination of 2 white genes.
Lp will appear as green brown moss spotting across coat to a degree depending on normal rules of Lp/PATN1
ZZ will cause a silver edging to the Het Fo leaves.

Contest 2
Id: 36894
Name: horsey2
Gene: Gemstone gene
Het would cause the mane, tail & forelock to be streaked with a particular colour (red - ruby, blue - sapphire, so on so forth) but the coat to look the same
Hom would cause all colour patches excluding white to look just like a gemstone (Amethyst, Emrald, Amber, Pearl, Opal, Moonstone, Garnet, etc) white patches would stay a bright whit. The mane, tail & forelock would still have streaks of the colour shown on the coat.
I was going to show photoshopped examples but i just didnt have enough time so here are some horses made from gemstone, they would look vaguely similar
Amber Horse
Lapis Lazuli Horse
Opal Horse

Contest 2
ID" 1486
Name: RipshinCreekFarm
Gene: Hound Dog Gene, with hidden Ticking Gene
The Hound Dog would be a dominant gene that would affect coat colour and pattern. Only one copy of Hound Dog (Hd) would be needed to see it. There is no difference between one or two copies as far as expression goes.
An ee ?? Hd? horse remains chestnut and is called red, one copy of cream renders lemon (a brightish yellow), two copies of cream give isabell (basically looks cremello) The mane/tail will be the same shade as the body, even on lemons. Flaxen will have no effect on manes/tails. An E? aa Hd? horse remains black, one copy cream renders liver (a dull sunfaded black), two copies cream renders black isabell (basically smoky cream). The bay horses will be different. An E? Ata Hd? will give black and tan coloration like on coonhounds. An E? Aa Hd? will give a tan body color with an extended black saddle like on beagles. An E? Awa Hd? would restrict black to a hazy topline. Mixing the agouti genes would vary the amount of expression. For example, AtAt would remain black and tan, AA would be a saddle, but AtA would bring the black somewhere between the two. One copy of cream would make fawn, where black turned a slate color, and tan turned lighter. Two copies of cream would make isabell fawn ( basically perlino). Champagne and dun do not modify, but silver would make blue merle on black based or red merle on bay based.
The second part of the gene would be the white patterning. The amount of white would be determined by the white factor and would be present regardless of base. Stages of white would be none - no white; minimal - white nose, feet, chest spot; light - blaze, chest, legs, belly connected white; medium - blaze, chest, collar, legs, belly, some flank connected; large - color restricted to head and side patches; extension - color restricted to head.
The third part of the gene would be separate from Hd, but Hd would be necessary in order for it to show, much like snowflake needs Appaloosa or Gulastra needs bay. Ticking (Tk) would be an untestable gene, and incomplete dominant. In horses that are recessive (tktk) white areas stay white. Horses with one copy (Tktk) will be be born with white areas, but as they age, small base color spots appear in the white. It would be similar to cat tracks on tobiano horses. Horses with two copies (TkTk) will also be with born with white areas, and develop base color as they age, but their spots will be smaller and much more dense. Horses will continue to tick as they age. Tk would be an untestable gene.
These are based on dog colors, particularly beagles, coonhounds, blueticks, walkerhounds and curdogs, but genetics aren't followed, since I know nothing about dog genetics. I will try to get some sketches up. Thank you for a fun contest!

So sorry for the delays again!
Before I announce the winners, I just want to take the time to thank EVERYONE who donated amazing prizes to the contest! This could have not been done without you!
Also, thank you to everyone who entered the contests! I had so much fun reading through the entries and oohing and ahhing at all the creative minds we have here in the community! I wish that I had the ability to bring every single one of these fantastic genes into play on the game.
And without further ado,
Contest 1, darkpixie and FlyingPheasantFarm are the winners! Congratulations! I will be PMing you directly to pick up your prize packages!
Contest 2- This was a doozy! There were so many entries (14!) it was very difficult to narrow down to 1 choice. It was obvious how much effort and time was put into each entry and the 3 judges were truly awed by the breadth and creativity of the entries! Thank you for your entries and hard work.
In the spirit of full transparency, this is the scoring scale we used:
10 points max for effort put into the entry
10 points max for creativity of the gene
5 points max for thoroughness of describing the action of the gene
for a total of 25 points. There were no points awarded for graphics used in the entry.
It came every close and almost everyone scored at least 18points! There were several ties for 3rd and 4th highest points across the judges' papers.
The winner is...... MariaChapinFarm3! I will be contacting you with your prize package shortly!
Thank you again for entering and I hope you had fun coming up with some ideas! I hope to host a contest again soon :-)
Until then, thank you everyone and have a great August! Remember, you are eligible to receive free straws if you entered so please contact FallenShadows714 for your straw! I will send her a list of all who entered.
These are just a few examples of her lovely boys she has graciously offered!
