Good Breeds?
  • Was wondering if anyone could assess the genetics of breeding these two pairs of horses? Not looking for some crazy gibberish answer. Just opinions on whether these sets will produce high preforming foals. Thanks!

  • What do you mean by high performing? Are you looking for a good show horse or a breeder?

I don't think you are going to get a very high PT foal from either combination.

In your first combo your stallion is a gen 2/3 uneven with rank special stallions on both sides. His PT is where I would want a gen 2 PT to be. His mom is Papered but hasn't been through free testing...so no telling if she's a decent breeder. The mare is a regular create foundation. Her AFPT is inflated by lots of uneven foals from high Gen stallions. She might be great, might not be if you bred her to Foundations.

In your second conbo, you have an even gen 3 stallion who hasn't been papered and has a PT that is well below what I would expect a gen 3 to have. PT doesn't really have a direct relationship to breeding ability, but you can generally assume that that a horse that has a high PT and has passed SAT may have a better breeding ability than a horse with a low PT and has passed SAT. I would expect a gen 3 stallion to Paper A. Your second mare is from my stock. She's ok but she got culled for having a lower than expected AFPT for her generation, which is even Gen 2. These two really might be a decent combination in that they probably have a similar breeding ability.

  • What do you define as a crazy gibberish answer?

  • For a straight up answer. No. I don't think breeding either pair will produce anything useful. They'd make pretty colors but that's about it.
As has been explained they won't produce good show horse based off their PTs and won't produce good breeding stock because they are so uneven

Um? If you read what people have to say and learn from them instead of calling it gibberish you will go much farther. ;)

  • What I meant was by someone talking about genes that I won't understand as I am only 13.

  • This is a complex game. Many times there isn't a simple answer to a question because a simple answer wouldn't be complete. You might be led astray. If the answer is too simple, you can't learn.

My advice would be to try reading those complex answers. If it doesn't make sense, ask about what is puzzling you in the answer. Ask what a word you don't know means. Ask why someone said something the way they did? Keep asking for help to understand an answer. Don't assume that because you are only 13, you won't ever be able to understand.

If you don't want to do this kind of repeat questioning in the open forum, send me a Private Message. I am a teacher and I like explaining things. Most of the time I'm pretty patient, and I won't call you names because you have to keep on questioning. I will even try to keep my language simple, and only use scientific words when I can explain them. This is a teaching game. Oh, you can just play it for fun, but you might find that half the fun is in the learning.
