Are Horse Raffles Allowed?
  • I browsed the TOS and the FAQ and didn’t get an answer. Kind of bored with hosting auctions and thought I might try raffling off a closed gene horse for hbs instead. Changing things up and giving smaller barns a change to win a really nice horse. I’d run everything on the forum and use a random generator to pick the winner.
  • I'm not sure whether raffles are allowed, but if you want the most participants possible, you might have to use an open fantasy gene instead of a closed one. Gene licenses don't travel with the foundation horse any more, they are bought with the first gene and never transfer.
If raffles ARE allowed, you could try promising a copy of Onyx on any horse the winner chooses. The roving gene sales would make a promise of any other gene unlikely, but Onyx will be available steadily through the end of the month once it's released.
  • Those are all really good ideas! In this instance, I have a Hom Chinchilla foundation stud that I don’t use much anymore. I’d like to find him a new home where he can be beneficial. The idea is that I charge enough per ticket to get a fair price for him (assuming I get decent participation) while offering him to the buyer for a bargain price. Also just a change of pace. I used to do forum auctions frequently on a different horse game and really enjoyed running them.
  • @RoseFlute whats Onyx? :-/ I’m excited! I didn’t realize a new gene was coming out!
  • I'm not too sure if it would be allowed, since you'd have members paying for something that they may or may not get. I know that auctions for a horse creation slot aren't allowed, because that horse didn't technically exist yet.

    Prices are almost always negotiable.
On the look out for pointed creates
  • @BellaVoce No one knows what it is yet. She’s keeping it a secret. The only hint we’ve gotten was a photo of a marbled onxy. It’s supposed to be released in the “second half of June.” Soo...any day now! I’m excited to see it.

@ObsidianKitsune That’s kind of why I decided to ask, even though participants will be aware that they aren’t guaranteed to win. The horse does already exist, not a promise of a horse to come. I haven’t ever seen any raffles happening, so I’ll be interested to hear from someone with a final say.
  • @Prism one problem with your current hypothetical is that with a closed gene horse, your possible participation pool is restricted to current owners of that license. If we own a license, most of us are full up on breeding stock with that gene...certainly on stallions.

As far as the legality of raffles, Ammit would have to weigh in there. If it is legal, you might have more luck raffling off a really nice mare rather than a stallion since most people can always find room for a special mare!
  • You can raffle something for free. You can't take any payment for a raffle entry.

  • @Cheers I don’t see it as a problem at all. It’s an inexpensive way to add new foundation blood to your lines for significantly less than an outright purchase of a closed gene horse. But in this case it wasn’t really a profit making venture, just a different way to sell a horse I’m looking at moving while offering someone a killer deal. So, not really gunning for huge participation to make cash, just a fun way to sell a really unique stallion (genetically speaking).

@Ammit Thank you for letting me know! Kind of bummed that it isn’t an option
  • Tell you what, I'll sponsor a free raffle so somebody can get their stud for the deadliest of deals and you still get to raffle and recoup some funds. :D
