Chat Rooms - Should I stay or should I go? (I left.)
  • TL:DR Version: Is there any worthwhile reason to remain in a huge list of chat rooms I never visit?

Awhile back, I joined a whole lot of chat rooms (mostly of the "Official Licensed ___" variety). There's never anything in them that I want to purchase (it's all boys, and heaven knows we all have PLENTY of those). Because there's nothing I want to buy or breed to, I never visit them - except once every couple of months to clear the little orange bells.

Am I missing out on anything exciting? Or should I just let them go?

  • I mean, I tend to stay part of the private chats people use to list horses on (esp the larger stables). But you can always turn off the notification bell if it gets annoying. I certainly do. I hardly use them anymore except as a way to securely sell a horse, or to advertise certain studs.
  • Fillies and mares ARE put up for sale in some of those chats, and tend to get snapped up quickly.

However, particularly for those Official Licensed rooms, it may be worth it to stay in and turn off notifications. I often find it quicker to check membership in a chat than to go to a player’s home page to determine whether I can sell them a closed gene or not...
  • I will say I wish there was a way to toggle off notifications of join requests/new members in any room I’m not a mod/owner of. That seems to be what happens most commonly in those Official chatrooms....

  • My notifications are off for all the rooms in question, but from the lobby page where I can still see all those bells it occasionally drives me nuts enough to clear them.
What I would like, I think, is a way to reorder the chat rooms in my personal lobby.
Failing that, I think I'm going to leave the rooms for now. On the rare occasion that I do want to buy straws/eggs or a horse, I have had good luck using search and then directly contacting the owners. If I'm after a closed gene, I make it clear at the outset that I do own the license (easy enough to post a link to an intact horse I already own with that gene, or perhaps to post a direct link to my home page.)
