So, I thought it would be fun to do a little quiz on Genetic crosses, and picking up a couple ideas I tossed them together and came up with a contest I hope you will enjoy.

Basicly, I will list several matches of genes. A stud and a mare for each question. Your mission, should you choose to complete it, is to give each possible cross, and a linked example of a horse in the game. *No promises all crosses have an exact match to find, or there could be several correct answers. Play in Search XD

I'll be closinng this on the 26th at the end of game day, so I can tabulate the winner in time for the magnificent ConfluenceFarms to award the grand prize by the time pastures open. What is the grand prize, you ask?

One stud or mare, that has visited the gene lab, for a total of 3 genes. (That's 6 alleles) Second place will receive 62500hb, and third 25000. If there is a tie, a random number generator will be used to pick the winner(s).

For the first cross I don't think anyone will find zesty! But this is an interesting take on guess the genetics and teaching people how they can use the search!

Oh what a fun idea and I definitely will be participating! Just to clarify however- for each cross, you want every possible genetic combination and an representative (if one is available) of that particular combo. Is that right?

ETA: and we do crosses for every one of those sire/dam combos you have listed (1-7)?

You got it thebluemoors. All the crosses for the 7 questions. Short links take up less space, so they are acceptable too.

Umm since order matter, when you write out a gene sequence from a punnett square does the vertical axis get written first or the horizontal? :/ I forget.

Edit- Nevermind, googled it. Top/horizontal axis goes first, then Left/Vertical axis.

And stud gene always comes first in our sequences, cause that's how it works in the game.

Okay, so.. what do you mean by any possible genetic combo? Like..

Do we have to find out every other genetic combo that the horse COULD have been, or are we crossing each horse on the list..? Forgive me, I'm extremely tired :p

@MariaChapinFarm3, yep all the possible combos is what the example looks like.

I have the combos for 6 and 7. Just need time to do the rest, find pics and edit my first post. Glad I'm off tomorrow. Recalling how to do stuff from college is eerily cool...

@Looper the game reads stud x mare, but as long as you did the crosses 1st genes x 2nd genes you did it right. Sorry about the chinchilla typo. I edited as soon as it was pointed out to me, but autocorrect is an evil thing around here, and it got me.

Just so everyone knows, this closes tomorrow night, even for editing. I'll be scoring from a Google doc.

I just finished scoring these. Sorry it took so long my boys came home for my birthday this weekend. You guys all did such great jobs, and it was really close.
