Hello, Blueboy! Welcome to Hunt and Jump! You are indeed correct that show horses are the bomb-diggety. As a new member, you have the ability to create foundation horses with points until you reach 20,000 points held. The ones you don't want to keep can be sold for a pretty penny to older members who can't create pointed foundations anymore. That money will help you buy a few barns and get a nice savings going before you max out of making pointed creates.

If I were you I would make lots of your own - pick up the herd helpers of perfect foundations, exceptionally perfect, exceptional show, great show and make lots of yearlings and sell them to us old timers. Don't test them except breed advice (it will cost you and we can guess roughly what their PTs will be if they are one of the above). I will happily pay 4k for anything over 200pts and you could get 10k+ for over 400pts (take a look at forum auctions for high pointers).
When you have a bit more cash and a few high pointers for yourself you will be ready to decide on your breeding goals. Join the beginner's barn chat to ask away - someone is usually around to answer questions :)

to market the horses that you created. Bourbon is right, selling your pointed creates will give you a nice chunk of money. Only selling my pointed creates, my other account is able to fund about 400k every month to giveaway to giveaways. When I tried different ways to start out, I found that the easiest, although the most boring way was to sell all pointed creates for at least a couple month, get a good nest egg going, and then start building your herds. Unless something else makes them unusual auction the ones under 200 points, or maybe 300 points, and sell all the rest.
