2 Months Later - Update on My Knee
-
So if you didn't see my original post, back in early December, i fell hard on my knee on my concrete garage floor while sprinting outside to go chase my mare out of her pasture mates grain bucket. My doctor had looked it over and settled on bone contusion as the possible cause of the pain/discomfort i had from the fall, after xrays did not show a crack. He said if it was still bothering me the second week of January, to come back. I waited til mid/late February simply because i was hoping it would get better and because i didn't have time. So went back and talked to him about the pain usually originating from the back of my knee, sometimes the side. He thinks it might be an internal ligament tear so i now have to get an MRI which is on the 28th of this month. I am so ready to be done with this. Even just sitting down on my bed is hard because if my leg is stretched out, it gets super uncomfortable, like my knee is caving in. So i have to have a pillow under it, but it still only helps a little. Being on my feet for longer periods of time aggravate it. So here's hoping they find something on the MRI that's fixable! As long as i don't hear the word "tendonitis" i'll be happy :)) (the joke there is that i have tendonitis in my right hand and left elbow so i am sick of hearing my doctor tell me it's "probably" tendonitis).Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Mysterious pain are the worst thing, especially when it takes all sorts of tests to find anything out. I hope they can diagnose something quickly and that it can be fixed.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

I hope they find the source and your knee heals soon! Don't let that mare know you have an injury though... She would tell you that you should have let her have the grain!Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

@WhiteMountain lol after i fell (and almost couldn't get back up because it hurt so bad) I hobbled as fast as i could through the snow down to the pen and threw a broom at her :)) The proceeded to chase her into a corner and made her stand there and wait until Classy (the other horse) finished her grain before i let her go eat her own hay. All the while i was standing there crying my eyes out because my knee hurt so bad. I still have a mark/scar from where i landed. Lol and it was only like, 11am so that's how my day startedBluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Knee problems are the worst! I know from personal experience. Until you get the MRI results, somethings that helped with my knee was going to a masseuse, and having them do a light massage on the knee. It was one of the few thing that made my knee feel better. I know it sounds weird, but it helps get blood flow into the damaged area, which in turn can help it heal faster. I can'tsay it's perfect for everyone, but it's something you could look up or ask your Dr. about.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

lol Funny thing is i am a master certified equine massage therapist but as part of the basic certification we practiced on each other. So i know the basics of massaging people. So i'll have to massage my own knee :))Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Oh my gosh, I’m certified as well! Which school did you go to?
I hope massage helps you as much as it’s helped me.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses -
MRI’s aren’t bad you just have to be able to hold still. For mine I even got headphones with my favorite genre of music.Thanked by 1AHayesHorses

@BlaxkDiamond i was certified through Therasage EMC by Greg Gage. I went to college at Ohio University Southern for Equine Studies and he had done clinics there in the past but my second year there, they made it an actual class (which means i got credits for it and my financial ad covered it!). The basic certification, which is what the class was, was 4 days long, all day classes. Then at the end of the last day, after out hands on evaluation, he would pull us aside and tell us how we did and if he would recommend us for the master clinic. He said i did exceptionally well and he would definitely like to see me do the master clinic (he only takes 4 people per master clinic). So when the opportunity came up, and at a discounted rate because of short notice, i immediately took it! The master class was held at the NRHA (Reining) Futurity in Oklahoma City. We got to work on some of the best reining horses in the world and meet a lot of top trainers in the reining industry! It was the best experience of my life and i wish i could go back!
As for the MRI, it wasn't as intimidating as i was making it out to be lol And i also got headphones to listen to music. I chose country music. And i was only in there for 20 minutes so it wasn't bad at all. They also gave me a warm/heated blanket. I was just about to fall asleep when they pulled me out :))Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

I'm glad the MRI wasn't as bad as you'd thought. Now comes the stress of waiting for results. :)
I hope that they found something treatable and you can get the relief and healing you need.De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

Thanks Sandy! I'm nervous as to what the results will be. I'm not sure if we can afford surgery right now so hoping for another answer. I need to be able to keep working in order to pay my student loans :(Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

Well the results came back. The MRI was normal. No tears or anything. You would think this is good news but this is actually a lot more frustrating to me than if they had told me i would need surgery. I am so frustrated that it's always nothing. My doctor said if it's still bothering me then he can refer me to a physical therapist but i just don't even see the point anymore. The doctor bills weren't even worth it after all :( It's all just so frustratingBluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

That sounds like a great massage training experience. Mine wasn’t as exciting as yours but I learned a ton and would recommend it to any horses person. I went to Western Montana school of Equine massage.
Since the MRI wasn’t very “helpful”. Another thing you might try is a Ciropractor... that is another reason thing that you’d want to research. And I’d highly recommend that they have Ex-rays on your knees as well as the ability to look at your MRI. That way they know what’s going on in your knee.
I have an inconclusive MRI as well, they said my MRI was clear. But the fact I couldn’t brush my hair convinced them I did have something wrong. That injury took 6 months of PT to mostly heal, and they Never figured out what was wrong with my shoulder. It still gives me trouble sometimes. “You hung your jacket up wrong” it says “now I think I’ll hurt for a week” never mind I hang my jacket up the same way every time. So just because they cannot find something doesn’t mean nothing is wrong with it. -
I do have a chiropractor that i see whenever i can. But the with the weather i have avoided driving anywhere unnecessarily. I'm just gonna wear my knee brace and pray. It seems the only thing that will help at this point that won't cost me a fortune in doctor bills. If i can afford it, i might try kinesio tape since that has helped before, with my tendonitis. I just can't afford anymore doctor visits/medical bills just to get no results. I've cost my parents so much money the past 5.5 years because of things that "don't exist". A stupid cough that developed into an "air" problem to my dang knee. It's never anything fixable :( It's all just so disheartening.Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755
