My dog has learned how to open the gate thanks to the foot traffic in our yard. We had to update his tags with the new phone number even though his favorite place is the front yard.

Day 8 of not having my horse. ;(. I don’t know the right name for the emotion but it’s somewhere Between melancholy and depressed. ;(

I'm in the "big city" for an archery competition, so afterwards we get to go see her. It's with my "non horsey" Dad, but oh well. I'm not going to be picky.

I've been housesitting for a local lady with saddlebreds and friesians, and heard about me being horseless. So she offered to let me start riding her saddlebred stallion again! SO excited! He is 25YO's, but is just about the coolest horse ever. (Second only to my girl of course)

I DO have a project I could use some help with - I'm looking for some high generation unbred 4yo+ mares. I don't have a ton of money, but I'd like to breed a few high gen stallions I have before the season is out! Anyway, drafts are ideal, but I'll take anything, since it's kind of an experiment for me. :)

So... I'm being a bit ridiculous.

Back story.

I joined an IEA team for western. I had fun, but my trainer seemed to think that I've never ridden quite as good since. (Which kinda seems weird as the IEA trainer travels the world as a judge, and is a well known trainer). But whatever. So I wanted to join an english IEA team for a multitude of reasons. My horse is "green" over fences, and I want to better myself before jumping her. 2.) What I'm really passionate about is jumping. 3.) My horse wasn't jumping sound so it was my only oppurtunity to ride. 4.) Looked good on scholarships. 5.) I am taking a school trip to Ireland to ride some 3 day eventers, and I wanted to be able to jump better to use the time. 6.) I was told I needed to be an "adult" and start doing things for myself. So this was what I was going to do on my own, for me.

I went down to a beginning "welcome" party and I felt REALLY out of place. Everyone had 80,000$ dollar horses and were kinda snotty. But the co-trainer seemed ok, so whatever. The IEA trainer was "VC". So anyways. VC wanted to meet my trainer (Carla), and to see my riding. Which sounded OK. So she came and met Carla, and they talked for a while. VC promised Carla that she wouldn't try to change my riding form.

Well... two seconds of her watching me ride on my horse she started changing my form. A LOT. For paint horse Hunt Seat I have a tendency to lean too far forward to begin with. And the first thing that VC had me do is almost ride in a two-point position, but constantly. Which is OK. I two-point all the time. But then she asked me to stop. And my horses command is to lean back. If she doesn't listen you might add the word "Woah". But the command is really to lean back. So when I sat up and asked her to stop she got frustrated. And it went WAY downhill from there. So VC asked me to do things that are perfectly reasonable of her discipline, but really confused my horse. It took me days to get my horse back to normal. Carla was upset that I was getting "ruined" again. Mom was upset that this was expensive and that I needed to "focus" and only ride my horse. (I would argue that that's what makes me a good rider - riding multiple horses. But I differentiate discipline or "riding mode" by what horse I am on. I can ride a reining horse, a 2YO and my girl in the same day all with almost opposite commands and get confused. But after that day on Lexi I couldn't "undue" the muscle memory). So anyways, Mom wanted me to ONLY ride Lexi. Not even other paint horses were OK. And Carla was all upset because if I wanted to do Hunter Jumper stuff then I need to sell my horse and get a hunter jumper. (I might want to make it clear that my girl actually jumps just fine thank you, and got 7th in the world in hunter hack.)

So although they "aren't forcing me into a decision" they made it clear that they thought that I shouldn't do the IEA team. But I was being stupid, and didn't have the guts to call VC myself and ask for my deposit back. So I made Mom call her back. (Yes I am a coward, and juvenile and ridiculous, and immature etc.)


So fast forward to now. I am horseless. And now I don't have an IEA team to fall back on. I still would like to practice for Ireland. I recommended VC to our neighbors (actually Mom's BF's neighbors) though for lessons. Although I don't think they told her that I was the one to recommend her. I wanted to ride with our neighbors ("Leisa") to watch their lesson. Then talk to VC afterwards for lessons. But Leisa said that she didn't feel comfortable taking me there without permission. Which means I need to call and talk to VC. And now I'm all worried she's upset at me, and I feel bad for "flaking out". And besides, since Mom and I aren't at the BF's house all the time I don't talk to the neighbors as much, so don't know if I could even coordinate with riding with them anyway. (Thought they were going to let me ride one of their horses. But that's a different story)

So... I don't know what I'm asking for... Advice?... Or I'm just venting? Or I'm writing down so I can see how ridiculous I'm being... or what....?

I don't know what to do. My Mom has been somewhat rude all day. My Dad and I were driving to my archery competition. In the morning Mom (on the phone as the parents are split) asks me what time we are leaving. I tell her, and she's gets all rude telling me how we're going to be late. But it kinda isn't her responsibility as she isn't going. It's Dad and mine thing. In times past she'd just randomly call Dad up just to tell him how ridiculous he's being as he's going to make me late. So then we get to competition and I tell her that I made it safely. She sends another text admonishing me for being late. (Which we weren't. she didn't even know our flight times). Dad and I were going to go the back way for some together time. Mom calls me up and asks me where I am. I tell her the name of the highway we're on. She's like "well that's a stupid way to get home, I might need to have to go take care of (Ida)'s dogs as she is taking her to the ER. (Which we could have done if we went the normal way). But sorry to say, so we can't. Then later she wants me to go hang out with our friend in the ER so she can go to dinner with her boyfriend. Meanwhile my Dad is struggling to keep his nose out of my Mom's business but is obviously frustrated by all of this. But Dad and I were going to be too late for her to be going to dinner. But I offer anyway, and she tells us to just go home. So Dad and I have a good evening. It's now midnight and Mom is telling me that I need to go drive 45 minutes so that I can take care of Ida's dogs. Which I would do if she was staying with Ida. But no. She's driving to within 15 minutes of Ida's house. Anyways. I expressed my concerns and reasoning when she called. I did not tell her how extremely upset my Dad is getting. We hang up, and I forgot to tell her that I love her. So I text that to her. And get 3 rapid responses

But what I don't understand is I'm just a teenager, the one she won't let drive back to her place after my college class because it was too dark at 7, but at midnight when she is going 75% of the way to Ida's house, I need to leave my Dad's house to go take of the dogs, just so she can spend the night with her boyfriend?

Am I being ridiculous? I normally pride myself on always being there to help, but I don't understand when she is already going out to the neighboring city? My car doesn't even have very good healights.

It sounds like you are caught in the middle of a rock and a hard place. It's hard to reconfigure plans when unexpected things happen. I hope your friend is recovering ok!
