Not Much of a Show Horse... but darn pretty
-
I find horses like these the most heartbreaking. If they were at least decent show horses, I could justify keeping them.
How much does inconsistency hurt a show horse's lifetime points? Then again, I am not too fond of the Performance Test Grade either. What to do...

Personally I’d keep her. Her PT isn’t horrible. Here’s some of my horses that match PT and have decent amounts of points.

That PT will be fine - keep her. Some of my greatest show ponies are inconsistent and I find that around 10 PT is better than around 11 PT anyway :)

You won’t really know how good of a show pony she will be until she levels off. I would say if you have the space, keep her. You always need younger guys to start taking the place of your older guys that are closer to aging out. I’ve found my 9 and 10PT ponies tend to find their feet quicker than their 11+ PT counterparts, since they don’t shoot up in the show levels as fast, so they can bring in some money.
And for perspective, here is my 5th ranked show pony in all time points. She’s bringing in more than some of my 12 PT guys are, with a PT of 10.4

Thank you all for the advice - I will definitely be keeping her! high 7W is definitely a showing sweet spot.

If you sort any large number of horses by best showing, you'll actually see the consistents in the middle, and half the inconsistents in the front and half in back, sandwiching the consistent ones.
In other words, the consistents are more or less guaranteed to be "alright" while an inconsistent might be either "great" or "poor" - better or worse, not only worse. :)ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines!
