Who else liked the snippers too much this season?
-
I Just got done breeding and culling. I had 61 foals this year, but only 12 are still intact... I think I might have been a little overkill with my spaying and gelding.
-
Can never snip enough.
I usually go though and let the game testing snip my foals then I go though and snip the inconsistent and non-Grullo foals.
Next I compare the boys to their sires (and try to catch and snip the lower papered ones before I do) any AGA or worse get snipped. Then I pick my top 3 from each sire and snip the rest. Finally I sort through how many studs I need to cover each group of mares I’m breeding in each generation and then go through and snip any of age studs that weren’t needed. Every few months I go through and pick new favourites from my favourites.
ETA: the last time I tracked and remember the results I was at a 1:15 intact to snipped ratioBreeding even generation Grullos with Ice -
I’m still figuring out a method that works for me for the colts. So this time I gelded all the pasture colts that BA didn’t snip, whiteout doing any form of testing. Since there was only one colt I would have kept entire from the group I don’t think it ended too badly. The hand bred colts went through PT testing inconsistent is culled, if they’re consistent then they have to paper well. I only have three colts left and at least one of those colts is still up for consideration because of color.
The fillies I have a routine figured out that works for me. First I BA everything then, I PT all of them snip all the ones who are inconsistent, lastly I snip the ones who don’t fit the paper criteria for that generation. Usually I have less than ten that pass. -
There's a leopard filly I regret spaying over on HJ1. I've kind of decided that roan and dun apps are my thing over there, but I keep going back and forth on whether I like leopard apps. But she was pretty cute and was decently papered.~Purveyor of the finest riding horses in Rakia~

Normally I don't think those snippers can be overused. But this season I accidentally snipped a gold 3/4 gen. She will get her lady parts back as soon as I can save up the GMTs.

It's nice to be back! :)

@Timelessstars the goals you get from your pasture if your mares have their full bonus are most likely to be your best foals. I take my pasture and BA and then paper all of my horses that pass any yellows in second gen get sniped as do the Cs then I go through and get rid of any that I don’t care for so roans and W2 and some plain bays and chestnuts then I only have a few colts left and a decent amount of girls as I’m more lenient with them this season I ended up with one boy for G2, G3, G4 and G5 for boys and then 33 girls. I pt all of my spays and keep any that are over 10.5 and the rest go into auction. Then I hand breed

Very true this season I had 2g red mares in my pasture with a B Stallion. I assumed I would be getting mostly Red fillies (which I did) and B colts. However I got a couple Blue Fillies so I just snipped the Red in favor of more show ponies. The colts I am unable to paper all of them due to lack of funds. Which is why I was sniping like mad to get more show ponies. I’m just thinking maybe I was too harsh now that I look at the numbers.
This is the only colt I would have kept. As he’s a 3g A.
Sh 3g maybe ungeld -
Just bred 78 3g foals and ended up with 8 intact fillies. I'm fine with that, the 3gs are my show ponies I guess, but still. My uneven horses give far more tact's with less foals than my even horses. XDAll into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.

I didn’t even get a chance to use the snippers much, SBA did most of the work for me this season! I feel like hardly anything passed....well anything noteworthy.

I always come out with too many intacts no matter how hard I try to be vicious about culling. Everyone is run through strict breeding advice and I've started to be a little more strict about PT scores now as well... My stud colts are usually easy enough, I have some great second gen stallions that I love and are doing well for me so, if the new ones don't have the genes/paper to stand up to my current faves, they get the snip. My issue comes with the fillies since there is really no good way to test them, you can't compare them to anything and so you really just need to wait until they are breedable and see how they do. So I tend to overkeep fillies and then try and cull the older ones that are not producing when the time comes. I also have too many lines and so it's easy to look at a horse and go 'oh I'll just put it in this line instead of snipping it'. lolID: 40723

I don’t have trouble with the fillies at the moment, But I think I might have too many 2gs in a couple seasons. I’ve always done BA (I don’t have SBA) then I cull out the colors I don’t want mostly chestnuts. Then I PT all the fillies I have left usually a lot, I cull out everyone that’s inconsistent. When I started getting more mares than I had room for then I culled anything with a PT under 10. Whatever is left gets paperd, yellows are snipped reds are kept. Out of my 60 horse pasture I usually have roughly 10 mares per season that pass everything.
