Lol, I love this! When HJ2 first opened, I bred silver grullo homozygous splash horses and called it my great white shark line. Never even thought about orca ponies! :))

@Wolvevenfrosst Raw talent! If you're looking for an art program recommendation though I think she might have mentioned Photoshop in the past, unless I'm getting her confused with someone else :P

If you're looking for a good program yourself, I wouldn't shell out money just yet - Krita and FireAlpaca are two good free ones for desktop, and ibispaint is a good free one for mobile. It's better to get familiar with digital art before shelling out money for a big program, and you may find you don't even need it. :)

Exactly as @Lallyhop said, Adobe Photo CC. I really would not recommend shelling out for it unless you’re working on the industry as it’s industry standard. Krita if I might say is absolutely fabulous, and the worst part is it’s free.

Sara Tepes posts her art progress on YouTube and works exclusively in Krita and also has a non-brand tablet. If you’ve got a few hours to spare I highly recommend checking her out. She’s a sweet girl with sound advice.

I don't have any intention of paying even a penny just to draw. I do have ibispaint and I do like it and need to master it, but I do like having other places to draw too. And I really now want to go see Sara Types to see what she has to say.

I guess that's part of your journey with art, it's finding what you like. I've always had Adobe PS since I was 11 since that's all there was at the time. I think by the time I was super comfortable with PS, Gimp came out and I hated it. If I wasn't constantly having to send over PS documents for proofing and client work then I probably would give something else a go.

The only other thing that's interested me is procreate, but there's no way I'm going to splash £800+ on a tablet when I have a custom built laptop that's perfect for me xD

Bourbon, you might check out ibispaint if you like doodling when you're not around your computer. It pretty much holds its own against procreate, especially for being a free app, and has a similar UI to clip studio if you're familiar with that one. One of my favorite features is the fact that (on apple at least) it automatically imports fonts from other programs, which means I can use the custom font I made inside ibis without having to export the file to anything else. A recent update also got rid of layer number restrictions, so any size/layers limit is just up to how powerful your phone is. There's also no limit on undo/redo (as far as I've had to yet anyways). Just about the only way it falls short of procreate is that I don't think you can import/create brushes. I personally don't use a ton of different brushes so that's never been a big deal for me, though. The only restriction the free version imposes on you is asking you to watch one ad for 18 hour access to all brushes/everything, and a small, non-intrusive ad banner that stays at the top of the screen.

Thanks for the recommendation Lallyhop! I hardly draw away from my laptop though, I'm so phone illiterate it's kind of sad lol. I only have my laptop, and a tiny iPhone SE, oh and a Amazon kindle. Other than that, I sometimes sketch on copy paper or in my tiny sketchbook for concepting the beginning of a brief.
