    I believe so to my knowledge Sooty and S+ have no effect on whether his color code reads as sable but I'm sure someone with better knowledge will come behind me and answer, Maybe @KAMRanch I know Sables are kind of her thing

    Yeah, sable is brown plus champagne as far as I know. I don't think darkening genes affect it at all. A quick search for S+Sty, AtAt, Ch, and sable turned up a few, including this horse.

    Just the same as brown - not only do you need no A or A+ but also you need at least one darkening gene for it to read sable rather than amber - that can be sooty, sooty+ or DP.
    Eg this horse is not sable but amber:-
