Sometimes Varnish Looks Good
  • Most of the time I really, really, dislike varnish.
Then sometimes I go through my pastures and find an exception or two.
Once again, brindle for the win!!

Breeding for all version of black drafts using chimera foundations.
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.

  • I love the fact that I have some appys that are in their double digits, and still aren't varnishing, even after refreshing their images multiple times. :D I'll try to find some.
    Love,

I think my favorite varnish would be these ladies...

This one shows it a lot.

  • Same here. I am always sad to lose my beautiful App spots to the varnish monster, but wow, those two look lovely! I don’t mind the annual varnish changes to a certain degree, but when they essentially go completely grey-looking, I’m not a fan. Maybe if you ask your two really nicely, they’ll just stop varnishing from this point? ; ) I know that’s not how it works, but it would be nice!

  • I wonder if the brindle stripes will stay black even when the rest of them goes completely white?

I like the combination of varnish and snowflake and roan. So soft and fluffy looking!

  • I wish I'd taken screen shots of her, I love her fade.

  • Unfortunately, in my experience, the brindle isn't saved in the varnishing process! This fellow had distinct brindle markings when he was a youngster. They're fading right along with the rest of the black!

I've mostly focused my breeding on snowflakes, these days, so I've come to accept the varnishing that comes with the territory. But, I really love the way the blanket spots are spared like in many of the examples. It can be really dramatic, like with this one:

  • This fellow is actually liver chestnut but the varnish appy combination has given him an unusual shade. I love the way his spots fly off his big white blanket and go up his neck hahaha
