Surprise Liver
  • So I got this gorgeous black stallion from SS. I had also received a Pretty Black mare since I hadn’t bred the mare yet I decided to do a bootstrap the two since you can never have enough show ponies.

I was expecting a black foal, maybe a plain chestnut. Nope I got a Liver baby. I guess one of the parents has a surprise copy of DP...

I’m guessing the Dream in Shadows is the DP carrier... any thoughts?

  • Both parents trace back to liver horses so the DP could've come from either of them. You could've thrown a GMT at him and see if he missed a second copy.
  • I’m not super curious about it. I don’t breed for liver. But it would be nice to know if the stallion has it so I could put it in his notes. I guess I’ll have to breed him to several sooty chestnuts to see.
  • The sire carries DP. ;)

I am very forgetful so if I owe you anything but am taking to long please send me a PM. I don't get on to play the game as often as I once did but I am usually most active during the 2nd and 3rd week of each month
  • @Haltanny good to know I will put it in his notes, and thank you.

@ColorGoodStables she’s cute! I’m glad he’s getting put to use.
  • I'd say both the stallion and mare are carrying the DP. That foal sure looks like a black liver to me, so I'd bet he has two copies of DP - one from both parent.
    Thanked by 1Haltanny
  • That's actually what I was thinking too @Waldgraf

  • Huh, I’ve always thought of hom DP livers looking literally black... maybe a little on the brown/Black side, but still mostly black.
  • That baby is hom DP but his hom Pangere makes him look light thats whats throwing you off Timelessstars
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • They often range from a near-black to a really dark brown. But, with this foal, I think a combination of the pangere and rabicano are making it look a little lighter.

If you compare Timeless' gelding to Haltanny's liver chestnut you can see that the first has four darkening genes while the second has only three.

  • That makes sense. Thank you. I’ll go add it to the mares notes.
