I usually try and avoid it but I'm finding my best horses are coming from both distant and close pairings of horses related to one another. Does inbreeding them make them less desirable to you as a breeder? I'm excited to hear your feedback!

Unlike other games I've played I've noticed linebreeding and inbredding isn't a big deal to most people on this game. Which is something I'm grateful for.

I too have noticed on other games people go crazy over inbred horses, refusing to buy and if they do buy they destroy it immediately. I don't mind it here on HaJ because I think it makes the horses on here better but on games like Howrse and Eqcetera, Horse Eden, Equiverse and such I avoid it as much as possible. I'm glad this community is so much more accepting.

It has seemed to me that indreeding is hardly a consideration here for most people.
People seem more worried about "uneven" breeding than inbreeding.
Line breeding is quite common and bootstrapping is pretty much all about inbreeding.

It is all up to personal preference. That is the best part about this place.

Once I learned there was no penalty for inbreeding, I stopped even thinking about it. My even lines get bred half brother to half sisters, and my bootstrap line it’s daughters back to father. I want (eventually) to get a true breeding line in my even lines, and flashy show ponies with high PTs from my bootstrap line. If that means I inbreed, well then that’s what I do. It doesn’t bother me at all, and won’t have any affect on the horses I purchase either.

Uneven breeding, on the other hand, will sometimes affect my purchases, depending on where I was wanting to use the horse.

Even in the real world, crossing back to related horses can be done well. Egyptian Arabians are an excellent example. I once rescued an Egyptian stud (we called him Johnny) who had a particular very famous mare in his pedigree eleven times. He was also pure Al Khamsa Arab from a super rare 'tail mare' line, which was not the mare he was linebred on, that was dying out because most of the mare's progeny were lost during a war.

A very well-known Egyptian Arab breeder told me something while I was researching Johnny's pedigree that has stuck with me the twenty-plus years since. If you cross back to a horse's own prominent bloodlines and it fails, your foal is inbred. Geld if it's a colt and never do that cross again.

But! If you cross back and get something special, you're practicing the time-honored tradition of line breeding to preserve and protect the positive traits in the line. ;)

Games, where there is not much inscentive to breed for ability, tend to result in hyper-focus on pedigree.

On the game I I breed regularly as in all my horses other than foundation horses are bred to family, but I breed for KP so it's easier to inbreed.
On Howrse when I played I was in the top Nakota breeding group before I got kicked out for changing how I bred horses which was actually a faster way of getting better quality horses than what they were doing, but that was all about inbreeding too as it was very much a closed line.
In real life never, such a bad idea for the genetic health of whatever creature.

In game i care nothing about inbreeding because doing it gets me to my goals faster. I focus on quality. I breed siblings together all the time. Especially because i breed genes like satin, kp, mushroom, chinchilla, etc that need to be homozygous to show. It's easier to achieve by inbreeding and line breeding. I do like to throw in other lines here and there though just to shake up the genetics.

In real life, i have linebred/inbred rabbits because it improves quality when breeding does back to their sire and bucks back to their dam. You breed them back to get the qualities they missed. You can safely do so for 8 generations. Also, i found out several years ago, when i first rode/competed on my mare, her sire is also her half-brother because they have the same dam. When i bought her last summer, i checked her papers and it is indeed true! But she is almost 17 and has never had a health issue in her life :x

Way back when I first started, I asked about this, too. My worry was mostly from a genetic defect point of view, since, in real life, breeding close family members can result in really bad things for the baby. But, I was told that Ammit didn't have the time or inclination to include that kind of realism, so I could go nuts. Honestly, I'm happy about that. I end up accidentally breeding brothers and sisters all the time :)

Most people's boostrap lines have tons of inbreeding. Although I don't do it the way most people do, I still get a lot of inbreeding. Some of my favorite ones come from inbreeding my favorite stallions.

Like I bred my satin stallion to random show mares. Then waited four months. Then did it again, and now have random satin. Did something similar with my WW/Chinchilla foundation. Although I didn't breed him back. Hope chinchilla will magically do its thing without much/any intervention from me.

Heck yeah, inbreed for the traits you want with no disadvantage to doing so!

I had a horse a while back where she was a product of brother to sister all the way down the lineage, she was a fab show horse :)

XIII Rogues FiveBirds AGA

I've had some foals from this line that picked up the low end of traits instead of the high end, but I'm finally getting a lot more gold fillies and a very few colts like Fiver who pass BA. He's the first to also test as AGA my stud Rogue, who seems to be a fairly high star, so I'm really pleased with him. Rogue Night is the only colt who tested superior against his sire as far as I know and is also slightly superior to DSW Bird Star according to comparison testing on one of Bird Star's sons, though when I tested Rogue himself it said he was AGA Bird Star.

I've tested my Rogue against any other star studs I've been able to buy and I haven't managed to get my hands on any who test superior. I dunno if that's just because of luck or what, but either way I love my Birds. :3

This lady is the result of breeding two half siblings. I would prefer her be consistent but I don't think shes too bad for being uneven a few generations back.

This bootstrap mare's sire is also her grandsire... and she has the highest PT of anything I've ever bred with 13.40

I must be in the minority, but prefer not to inbreed my horses and I've definitely passed up on horses I was interested in buying because of it. I very occasionally make exceptions. I'll consider a horse if the same sire/dam shows up twice three generations back and I'll get even more lenient with generations that don't show up on the main family page pedigree.

I realize it doesn't make a difference in the game, directly - it's more of a personal preference. I like the challenge of it. And, it definitely contributes to increasing the value for buying horses with the genes I'm looking for.
