Random idea/breeding project: Kathiawaris
-
So ... I've decided to start a sort of odd little breeding project, my first real, codified project. Since we don't really have breeds in the game, I figured I'd "make" one with a breeding line, and I've chosen Kathiawaris:
For those who don't already know - a kathiawari is a breed from India (the Kathiawar peninsula, specifically) noted for their inward curling ears. They are related to arabians and marwaris and are known for their hardiness, athleticism, intelligence, and affection. They were used as cavalry horses for a long time, and are still used in various local sports and cultural traditions (like weddings), and they have a swift, lateral pace, called the revaal. I like them because they are small desert horses and they often have spotting like tobiano and splash. And their ears, their ears are neat :D
Anyway, the rules I've set for myself are thus:
- must be: a riding pony
- must not have: recessive bay (so they can never be black), mushroom, chinchilla, silver, roan, appaloosa, unnatural colors, or ice
- must only have: the white spotting of: tobiano, any splash, any sabino, and w20
And my goals are:
- breeding for lightest bone possible (IRL they are known for having light bone structure)
- breeding for highest PT possible.
I've made a "Kathiawari Registry" brand for them too, that fits inside my stable brand :D (it's on the lower right corner):
Dance In Your Blood 01S
I was thinking ... if anyone else had an interest, that I could open a chat for them. And I'd be happy "brand" any horses that fit the criteria with the Kathiawari Registry flower, if anyone was interested in that :)

That is awesome! My alt account AnassaEneri would be in to incorporating this into a second line among her riding ponies!Dabbler in EVERYTHING.Thanked by 1Summervine

@CeffylDwr That would be sweet! I think a breed project like this might be more fun with more than one person hehe :D

I probably have quite a few horses that would fit that description. I actually just reorganized my foundation lines and have a ton of extras, if you are looking for more mares. I'll go grab a search link real quick.
Riding Pony Mares
I didn't narrow down by color, but these are all my extra riding pony mares, almost all RS or XP.#28036Thanked by 1Summervine -
I've never heard of Kathiawaris before but i have heard of Marwaris that have the same curled ears! I always loved the look!Bluegrass Server: HayesStable - 221755

@Haltanny Awesome! I will take a look in a little bit (working on organizing my own RPs haha!) :))

@AHayesHorses I love those ears!! hehe. Marwaris were my first discovery too. There's another Indian breed called the Sithi that seems to have slightly curled ears too, but not as extreme as the other two!

I'd definitely be interested in this. I don't have the space to add another line right now, but as I grow, this sounds like a fun project.

@FeldingFields All of those are definitely allowed, and dun is especially encouraged :)
@levesel2 Yep, grey is ok too!
Yay, I'm so excited to have others to do this with! :D Thank you!
Once you get into the group PLEASE NOTE - if horses are up for 1hb, it's so I can brand them, or I'm passing them back. DO NOT BUY THEM, unless they are explicitly for you. Thanks!

That's awesome! I have never seen or heard of this breed before. I love learning about different breeds. My accounts are both focused on two different breeds. Thoroughbreds for my Burnt Hill account and then Knabstruppers on my Oak Branch account. I've also thought about starting an Akhal-teke project, but I need a few more barns to get that up and running so I'm not getting too much mixed up.
Good luck with your project and it would be awesome to see a full-blown breed registry.~☼~Welcome to Oak Branch Farms

It occurs to me that frame is a new world mutation, so it probably makes more sense to exclude it from these lines.~Purveyor of the finest riding horses in Rakia~

@BurntHillCreek I've got a small Akhal-teke project on the side! Well, maybe not 100% true to life, but definitely heavily inspired by. I'm working on a line of silver amber champagne pearl RHs with satin - harder than it sounds to get all those genes in one place! I'm also excluding sooty/dp and not allowing myself to GMT anything, so it's slow going :))
Here's my closest so far, color-wise, though she came out too heavy, and with dun and sooty:
SL 3105333ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! I'm always selling straws and eggs from anything I have that catches your eye, don't hesitate to PM me and ask! -
@BurntHillCreek Oh how cool! I'd love to see your favorites of your two projects! And I'd totally do Akhal Tekes with anyone who wanted to start a similar project, I think that would be way fun :D
@Lallyhop What a gorgeous color combo!
@FeldingFields I am on the fence about frame, but you are right, I've only ever noticed frame on new world horses, no wonder i couldn't find any pictures of Kathiawaris with frame. Sandycreek was also voting to disallow frame, so I'm inclined to lean that way too.
@levelsel2 Did you want me to add you to the chat?

Just curious. Why riding ponies? I thought they were horse sized?----
Barn ID 4953
I am very forgetful so if I owe you anything but am taking to long please send me a PM. I don't get on to play the game as often as I once did but I am usually most active during the 2nd and 3rd week of each month -
@ColorGoodStables Mostly for ease in this game. They are pretty short horses in real life, and most of the standard size falls withint riding pony size, rather than riding horse size. I decided it would be easier to make it one type in the game, rather than straddle them.

Re-posting the breed standard with the addition of Champagne and frame as not allowed.
