    Hom freakin' snowflake! Out of two lines I didn't think had anything to do with snowflake!
    This obviously confirms my milestone boy is in fact het for snowflake, which woohoo! But where the heck did the other copy come from?! I am literally STUNNED. I know it's happened before, but holy cow! Super unexpected, and to top it off, she passed SBA and papered blue! :x

    Update:
    So... I proved her grandsire is a snowflake carrier with one breeding. =))

    Snowflake occurs spontaneously when creating horses, from time to time. I'm not exactly certain how often it happens, probably fairly rarely. However, since it will not show up without two copies of that gene and at least heterozygous Llp, it remains hidden until the horse is bred to another and the foal inherits all the right genes. Probably snowflake is present in one of the created horses in the dam's line, and it got passed along secretly until all other conditions were right.

    Thanks everybody! I've got no clue where snowflake came from on dam's side, and all but one of her predecessors is deceased. I've pulled a bunch of straws from the remaining stallion in hopes of proving whether or not he has snowflake.
    I'm also going to track down the other descendants from these foundations and see who among them is alive and possibly a snowflake carrier!

    I'm really loving these surprise snowflakes! So thrilled I found the carrier on dam's side, now to determine if foundation sire was initial provider. Foundie dam is deceased with only one intact foal--also now deceased.
