    So I’ve been trying for months... literally, to get/breed a abnormal nexus. I’m starting to feel like it’s nearly impossible. I’m loving the nexus babies I’m getting. I just wish I would get a line of abnormals going. On a better token, I finally bred my very first liver baby!! She passed all testing AND is app as well as ice. I’m over the moon about her.

    What have your breeding strategies been so far?
    You need both parents to be at least het nexus to have a chance at a baby that is homozygus.

    If you were to breed June to a hom Nexus stallion when she’s old enough you would have a good chance at a hom Nexus foal

    I guess that’s where I’ve been messing up. I’m new at the game, so I’ve just been breeding with nexus straws to my brood mares. :-))

    If you cross your het. Nexus together you’ll also have a chance at homo nexus foals.

    If you have some nice intact babies from those straws you can breed them together when they age up and get a chance at third gen hom nexus babies.

    Starting out is the hardest part with genes like this. It usually takes a few generations to get going. At least it is much easier now with the roving gene sales.
    Foundation nexus were in very short supply until this month.
