Did anyone else, this breeding season, have a mare or stallion who exceeded your expectations in the foal/s they gave you? I love hearing about the surprise foals people got from that little mare they forgot about or the underdog stallion in the back of the barn haha. I figured I'd share my little story and see if anyone else wanted to share and showoff their surprises too!

This is The Engineer. I bought his sire (Gold Dust) a few months ago purely because I adored the way he looked. I just loved those dapples and colours and his owner was nice enough to sell him to me when I asked about him. Gold Dust was a worse then sire colt but I thought I might use him to breed some really pretty show ponies for myself so I wasn't to worried about quality I just wanted pretty haha. In his first season with me, Gold Dust gave me The Engineer who I kept to add even more bling to my show lines. Well. He turned out to be my unexpected star this season. He has only been to a handful of mares but of that handful of mares roughly half of the foals that he sired papered A or Blue (he is a B himself) with very good pt scores as well as being consistent, very tall (which I breed for) and stunning to look at. For this reason I have nominated him as my unexpected star of the season haha.

Gorgeous! All of them! As a side note on your awesome surprise stud, I fell in love with S+ a couple of months ago and began buying as many breeders as I could get my hands on. Got a few lovelies that I'm excited about and now I want to expand into some new lines with it...particularly silver-based. Here a are a few of my favorite recent S+ babies:

G7 Lady DarkRose

I bought Lady DarkRose because I really didn't have much of any Sabino 2 in my herd, and I wanted to tap into that a little bit. I have been very pleased with the first foal I got from her, PaintedLadyOnTheMoon, but unfortunately PaintedLady has yet to produce quality like her mother has. I also got a gorgeous filly from Lady DarkRose, she is inconsistent but I hope her flashiness will come through in her foals in the future.

Miss Opaque Player

My much beloved Miss Opaque Player. I bought this mare for her sooty and frame. And also because of her sire, Dense Player. Miss Opaque Player passed away a couple months ago, but she has certainly forever stamped her stock in my herd. Her daughter, Obscure Eclipse came out much more plain than I wanted, however I was just happy to have an intact consistent decent filly from my beloved mare. When Obscure Eclipse was old enough to breed, she came in rocking and immediately threw out only my second *Gold foal ever; Queen Eclipse. Queen Eclipse's first two foals have been rocking, a *Gold papered filly, and then next season a *Star colt. All of this, going back to my dear Miss Opaque Player.

@duelinghawks that first filly especially is gorgeous! I love how that S+ Sty looks with satin over it too. I might have to try it myself haha. Such lovely foals!

@Dunbroc wow! What a line of horses you have going, I really enjoy reading about lines other people work on so thank you for sharing. Obscure Eclipse does look plain but she is clearly quality, Queen Eclipse and Dionysus I think are especially lovely. Congrats on such a nice line :D

This is my surprise superstar, she was a little yellow papered gen2 mare I bought just after christmas last year. She had lots of fun genes so I gave her a bit of a boost to red and hoped if I left her in the pasture she'd give me something pretty of better quality. Well I had a few not so good, but also some really nice foals from her, she became the one I was excited to see what she gave me each time!

This is my Surprise Superstar, he's my first A papered mr. meteor milestone grandson, he was from some of the first straws that i had gotten a couple of months right after i got my upgrade :) he's given me some beautiful foals for the past few months :) he's my favorite out of all of my pearls.

At one point, i almost sold him when he was a foal... and i'm so glad i didn't because after he turned 3 i went ahead and test him on a few mares :x and got a few blue papered filly's...but when he turned 4, he threw an unexpected snowflake filly

This boy right here just blew me away. He had some okay foals but then out of left field came his very first filly and she is my very first 2G Blue filly, and her dam had zero pasture bonus.

My surprise superstar of this past season.. He's thrown an amazing crop of foals! He throws colour as well... and an average foal PT of 11. 21. Loving his babies!
