How did you choose your breed name?
  • I've only been playing for a little over a month, so when I finally bought my basic upgrade I rushed into choosing a breed name without putting much thought into it... Just my name spelt backwards lol.
But since I've gotten into the game more it seems a lot of people have great sounding breed names that almost sound like they could be real ones! So tell us, how did you come up with your choice? Does it have particular meaning to you?

  • My breed name is just a combination of two words from my horses show name which is Wayouts Ima Royal QT and my breed name is Imaqt this is her

  • My breed name is Lapisobsidianus. Separated, that's Lapis Obsidianus. I love obsidian, it's my favourite rock, hence it being a part of my username. "Obsidius" was a Roman dude who was the first to give this very special volcanic rock his name. It's technically "Obsidianus Lapis" but I swapped the two around.
Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
    Prices are almost always negotiable.

  • Cymraeg is simply 'Welsh' since I'm from Wales. I did want Ceffyl which means horse but someone beat me to it! I thought it would be hilarious to have 'Horse horse' kind of how like Naan means bread, so it's 'bread bread'.

  • My breed name,Sobresaliente, was suggested to me by someone. I'm bad I can't remember who. It means outstanding in spanish.
Quality riding horses with DP, Sooty+, Sooty, SB1 and SB2.
Owner of Ice 1, Phantom Diamond Sparkle, Phantom Lace, Chinchilla, Splash White M, Chocolate, and Onyx.
  • I love mine - Capsaician. Obviously from the chilli pepper name I chose for my user name. Someone here suggested it to me. Thanks. Dinascar just chose Dinascarian as it was weird enough but DinaChill has yet to choose. I am not sure what to use for her's.
Dinascar and Chilli were both names of my cats I had many years ago. Dinascar is from an elvish name from Tolkien.
I might play around with The Dina bit - maybe a dinosaur name. Not sure yet.
It also takes me a while to name my horses - most of my breeders just have numbers and genes to help as when you get to a certain point naming becomes really hard :D
  • Kapitansparadies: Captains Paradise in German
The a after the t is ment to be ä but its not considers a letter :P

    My previous names were
Glauben : Believe in German and Stolz : Proud in German

  • My farm name here was the actual name of my family farm a very long time ago. I had a pet large standard spotted jack then, Rascal, who was better than any guard dog. When anyone was on our land he'd run up by the house and point towards them as he started bellowing out that donkey 'ee-haaaaw!' until someone came outside and yelled, "Okay, Rascal!" We told a few people who asked why we put up with all the noise that it was Rascal's ranch and it stuck. :D

When I was making my farm name here I had no ideas, so I went with Rascal Ranch. Later when I upgraded and saw the breed name rules, Rascalarian just seemed to fit with it.

  • I chose Lucandrew.
My toddlers name is Lucas and my partners name is Andrew. He passed away a month before I discovered this game and having this game kept me occupied at Times and really helped me.
Just seemed fitting to join the 2 most important people’s names together :)
Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.

    Horses generally always available.
    PM me for any enquiries.

  • A loose definition of Gestalt is 'a whole which is more than the sum of its parts.' I thought that was appropriate, both as a breeding philosophy, and also as a tip of the hat to the combined pony power in my show barns, all working together to (hopefully) make the project completely self-sufficient and continually growing.

Also, 'Gestalt' just sounds super warmblood-ish to me!

One of these days, I'll have to commission a tattoo. :)

  • I'm loving all these stories, the names with deeper meanings seem even more impressive now and I'll remember next time I see one of the horses you've bred.
If the time comes for a second account I will have to take some of these ideas on board. My username SquishLime is just the gaming name I've used for the past 10+ years. My dog Squishy was the first dog that actually belonged to me rather than the family, but she got put down in 2011. Limelight was the name of my first horse, a black ASH x TB gelding. I was forced to sell him a few years ago but I miss him a lot. Maybe my current lot of fur babies will inspire my next stable/breed name.
  • Sionnach is gaelic for fox, and I have a pet fox.

(Edit: he's legal, and I'm licensed with the division of wildlife, so no worries.)

  • I love hearing about everyone's names and the history and meanings behind them! So many clever, unique, and interesting creations!

As for myself, I have been using BlackWyld for nigh on two decades. It is just who I am now online. To use it as my breed name just makes sense.
It has personal history and various meanings and interpretations (some deeply philosophical some very simple) that have evolved over the years. To explain is in full would be lengthy, and at times may get a little strange.

If I didn't use BlackWyld I would definitely go with a name in one of Tolkien's languages or something celtic because I am a huge nerd. ;)

It works out though because it rolls off the tongue easyish. Maybe one day people will say, "I managed to pick up a BlackWyld colt the other day." Unlikely but who knows. :D

Breeding for all version of black drafts using chimera foundations.
Help me build my black brindle army!
Always looking to buy B/Red foundation brindle drafts in black, blue roan, grullo, classic champagne, etc.

I can be very scatterbrained and forgetful so if I don't get back to you in a decent amount of time just poke me.
  • This thread reminded me that I haven't done so since I got a basic upgrade, haha.

I picked "Kaloseidos" which is part of the ancient Greek for Kaleidoscope. "Kalos" means beautiful, and "eidos" means form or shape. I thought it sounded nice and I liked that it was similar enough to my stable name.
  • i just love everything to do with the galaxy, i find it fascinating how everything we have now is made up of stars that have exploded! thats where my username milkyway2001 came from, so it seemed only fitting that my breed name be along the theme of the galaxy too. hence the name galaxia :)
  • I decided to use my stable name, Sandy Creek, in other languages for my breed names. Here in HaJ 2, I went for Norwegian and came up with Sandbuktian. In HaJ 1, German got the nod, and Bachsandigan was the result. Both versions seemed to roll smoothly off my tongue. :D

  • I use Draconic here. Not only for my user name.....well, pretty much only for my user name ;)
  • Well I chose Illusive as a play on SeldomSeen but I guess that wasn't allowed so I just translated it until I found a version I liked(hungarian) Illuziv. I just like how mysterious it makes them sound.
  • I'm so horrible at picking names, and I usually want a name to last since I can become really indecisive. So, I decided to stick to something easy. I chose Sonoranian because it is where I spent most of my life. :) I'm from the desert and I believe this is one of the prettiest places in our country. It gets snow in winter and while it's so hot it melts asphalt in the summer, it's flowers are amazingly abundant. :) Plus you have to be hardy to survive. I should of named them after the Salt River horses, but decided against it.

  • I’ve been working on a writing project for somewhere between five to six years now, and it’s very dear to my heart. In this fantasy world of mine, the empire is named Kanskownpqey. As such, I shorted it to make it sound more “breed-like” and ended up with Kanskie horses. :)

As a funny side note, the reason I chose Kanskownpqey was that when I keysmashed it and a bunch of other names to try and come up with something, for some reason it didn’t register as “not a word” in the way that most conglomerations of vowels do. No red line of correction by my phone nor my computer (and it still doesn’t). Google gave me no answers as to why it didn’t come up as wrong, because it’s definitely not a word. It didn’t pull up anything in Google results, lol. Appreciating the lack of red line, I chose Kanskownpqey. :))

  • I LOVE when people ask this question! My breed name is Callipygian. Google it. Gooooooogle eeeeet! :-w

  • Confluence always wins this question, lol.
As for mine, Reisender means traveler in German. It was especially fitting since I just recently discovered I am a German citizen by blood, (I was born American) and our lifestyle, consequently, is traveling.

  • Omg, Confluence! That's awesome =)) Mine is Tuonelan. Tuonel is the Underworld in Finnish mythology and I wanted to keep mine in line with my theme (DevilsParadise, and my barn location is 7th Circle) :)

  • @ConfluenceFarms I take it you breed for hindquarters?

  • Mine is Thuvhe pronounced Thoo-vuh. Which is a nation planet in a great 2 book series by Veronica Roth called Carve The Mark.
  • For this account I chose Frelsi, it means freedom. My first name means the same Soo...
On my RolaFarms account, well first off Rola farms is my dad's actual farm. Rola stands for Roper of Louisiana, my dad's last name and where we're from. All of our homebred horses carry the Rola at the beginning of their name. Rola seemed too short for my liking of a breed name, so I went with dads last name, and it formed into Roperian.
On my Windigo account, I went for Lolokalani. It's Hawaiian for crazy sky, which is the view we get here at my house around sundown every day, and also a nod towards my husband's Hawaiian heritage.
  • Also, Confluence, you win hands down lol.

  • Confluence, as a Quarter Horse lover and owner, I wholeheartedly approve. Bravo!

  • I made mine from a famous painters name, although i changed it just slightly. (Based off of van gogh. The breed name is vaughn)
  • Had to look up Confluence's name and now I'm laughing!
As for mine, I absolutely adore wolves. I've been in enclosures with wolves, even. So I wanted to find a unique word that meant wolf. I think the first one I tried was already in use (can't remember what it was) so I just kept looking until I found Tikaani.

  • My brees name Caddoian is actually the name of my horse Caddo. They are an Indian tribe in Florida that my husband spent time with. That is also how he got his name. I love Indian tribe names.

  • My breed name is Ausmerican, I’m born and raised American now living permanently in Australia with my Aussie husband. As a result, I’m not really just American anymore but I’m not really Aussie either,..I’m Ausmerican!

  • I have always absolutely adored the baroque breeds, so I modified two iconic Spanish breed names for my accounts by spelling them phonetically (Loosatano and Ondolloosian). The fact that they both incorporate "LOOSA" is an additional bonus considering I primarily breed for appaloosas in the game :-)

  • My breed name is Zeitlos which is German for Timeless. I'm working on learning German so I translated a few variations of my username/time. I posted a discussion on here and asked which was the best and Zeitlos won.
As for my username, I've been using it online for many years (or some version) and it was the slogan for the closing of the Broadway musical CATS which was the longest running Broadway show at the time it closed.
