I'm trying to set a horse up for breeding in a buddy chat but instead it says its up for public breeding.

I think it's just a wording problem in the notification.

When I look at his page myself or dig him up via search, he doesn't appear to be offered for breeding. I think you're ok.

If he is up in the buddy chat he will look like he is up for public breeding to members of that buddy chat. To everyone else it will look like he's not available at all.

You should be fine. I'm a member of the silver buddy chat and he appears as up for 1 hb for me.
