Exceptionally Perfect colt snipped?
  • I'm fairly new (just under 30 days). I bred two Exceptionally Perfects and the colt didn't pass SBA. I figured these parents would be a pretty safe bet...any thoughts?

  • A horse can throw anywhere in it's "breeding range". One day, it may throw high and you'd get an amazing foal. Another, it could throw low and you'd get a dud. Sounds like both could've thrown low and you've gotten a dud.

  • Every horse has a low end and a high end that they can throw to their foals. SBA also hold the foal to a higher standard and but be better then the parent to pass. Both your horses probably threw at their low end hence the foal didn't pass SBA. It's not uncommon to have 50% of foals not pass SBA. As an example one of my pastures has 30 mares but only 14 passed SBA, one had 29 mares and only 12 passed SBA and yet another had 29 mares and 22 passed SBA. It all depends on what range the parents are throwing from.
  • Thank you for the explanation! I definitely got a Milk Dud...I may name him that lol.
