Standing at Stud: Black Splash Frame Freaky Friday Appy
-
Hello! My Freaky Friday stallion Lucky Day is 17 years young. I want to offer his fun genes to other players before he moves on to pixel pony heaven. He is standing for 500 hb.
Lucky Day is currently the only horse on HJ2 with appaloosa, splash AND homozygous frame.
Please be CAREFUL when using mares with potentially lethal gene interaction, as all his foals WILL have frame. If you aren’t comfortable with how to use the lethality chart, post your mare and I will help you determine if she is a risky match.
Straws are also available at pull cost of 500 : )
Thank you for considering Lucky Day!

What is the risk of this one? I'm interested in what interesting colors or patterns will show up.

@squeakerblue The foal is almost granted lethal, since frame is lethal when Homozygous.BlueJumpingBean 28718

I'll take 6 straws anyway, just in case I find a pretty mare to breed.Thanked by 1Alohomora

I'd love to sneak 10 straws from you, if you don't mind! Such a handsome boy, hopefully he sticks around for a while longer!ID# 25784Thanked by 1Alohomora

Thanks, everyone, for your responses! I am so glad to see interest in this cutie.
horsey2, squeakerblue, BlueJumpingBean should all have straw offers. BlueValley, would you double-check my count and make sure I sent ten?
squeakerblue, BlueJumpingBean is correct that you are very unlikely to get a live foal from that cross. If the genetics gods were smiling down on you, it could be really flashy, but nearly all of their foals would be lethal.

Can I get 4 straws please and thank you :)
He really is gorgeous, hope he sticks around a little longerThanked by 1Alohomora -
How do I check to see if I got the straws?
-
@squeakerblue You will receive a notification on your main stable page (once they've been offered to you) where you have to purchase each individual straw--it's the only way to get them.ID# 25784

@squeakerblue There is only a 50% chance at a lethal foal with that mare, so you could still get a live foal. If you bred the two 4 times, I would expect 2 live foals, depending on how lucky you get. Personally, I don't breed pairs with 50% or high chance of lethality, but there is still a 50% chance at a live foal if you wanted to chance it.#28036Thanked by 1Alohomora

Can I please have 4! He is lovely. I might also send you some mares just to check lethality!Home of the Valley Warmbloods.

@Haltanny don’t the splash genes also increase the white factor, potentially leading to a lethal risk greater than 50%?
I know white factor varies from one foal to the next even with the same parents, so there’s no easy rule to follow, as it’s a range. If we were JUST looking at Frame, yes, that cross is 50% fatal, 50% live foal, but stacking splash increases the risk of fatality. Did I understand that correctly? Please correct me if I’m wrong, as I am still learning white factor and risky genes.
Having said that: on a personal level, @squeakerblue, I would totally take the risk, knowing my odds of a live foal were low. I am REALLY lazy with breeding lethal genes. “This is a terrible cross! Let’s do it!” (Thirty minutes later... )
My philosophy is: this is a digital horse, not a real one, so let’s see what happens. My barn is big enough to absorb the loss of a few foals each year from me making risky decisions. I asked for Conversation Hearts from Secret Santa. These mares were not pastured this month, so it’s no big deal other than a hit to my bank account. (This is where my brain gears slowly start turning.)
Sooo... I did an experiment, and used a Lucky Day straw on all my breedable Conversation Hearts mares. Disclaimer: PLEASE NOTE MY SAMPLE SIZE. It is ONLY five mares. This is an experiment of curiosity only, and should not be a take-home lesson of how genetics are mathematically SUPPOSED to work, but rather, how they MIGHT turn out in ONE test.
Mare One: This foal carried an excessive burden of white mutations causing it not to survive. Ironically enough, this was the mare wearing the least amount of chrome:
RS Conversation Hearts
Well, that’s not off to a great start!
However... some Days are just Lucky ; )
Mare Two: A bay filly
Got Lucky Today G2
Mare Three: A colt
Luck of the Straw G2
Mare Four: Another colt
That Was A Close One G2 These boys (3 and 4) are both HOM Splash. He and his brother scraped by. I would expect either of THEIR foals from white factor crosses to be more likely to die than their bay sister’s, due to increased white factor on the boys. I wish we could still see the numbers that were temporarily viewable last year, so I could know just how close these boys got to fatal.
Mare Five: A gelded colt
Texas Luck G2
Moral of the story: At the end of the day, when our sample size is too small to yield scientifically meaningful results... punnett squares laugh at us. My experiment did not yield the results I expected, but I did get four cute foals : P
