I'm hoping to get GMTs for my birthday (we'll see), so I am hoping to make this guy hom kp, so he'll need another kit gene, so if he was yours would you add tobiano, roan or just another w20 gene?

If he were mine I'd add tobi, but that's just because I love tobiano lol

I'd add tobiano as it's pretty much safe with everything. But I'm a bit biased lol. I absolutely adore tobi and will hopefully have one in real life very soon (it's in utero as we speak!)

I've never been a huge fan of tobiano. So for me I'd say W20.

I have accidentally killed one or two foals with a slightly risky w20 cross.. heh.. :-((

Tobiano is what I would do.
@Knikna I have 2 tobianos in RL. One is the classic tobiano pattern and Caddo is 50% white to 50% color my favorite. Post pics once your baby arrives.

@KAMRanch - someone correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty certain that W20 is one of the safest genes. It only runs a low risk with W and W2. I've crossed it on pretty much everything and never had an issue.

W20 crossed with some things, like another w2 or w1 can be risky.. I didn't understand until I killed two foals in pasture once.. unless I'm just really unlucky.. ha

That is the chart I use and I've saved all the charts since I end up referencing them every season, lol. I'm pretty sure its the white factor that's the biggest issue. Are you sure it wasn't another gene causing the issue?

Wow I would treasure a horse like that, he is awesome. I don't know if I would add a paint gene, but I am trying to breed Arabian like RH. But there is a up coming breed that they are calling Pintabians which is a cross between Arabians and Paints. I am sure they will be adding Pintaloosa to the Arabian horses too. I know many people love the Arabian, but wish they had more colors in the breed. Your horse is beautiful, good luck with him.

@coeur I wish I'd paid greater attention to which horses they were, I know they didn't have frame so I ruled out that, but I try not to breed anything together with a white factor over light.. probably was something like that though.. I thought I remembered referencing the chart and being like, "oh, two w something's.." but I'm always looking for more experience on that so I never kill one again! :-((

None of the kits are TOTALLY safe 100% of the time with all the other kit genes, but tobi and roan have the lowest so I'd go with one of those so that you have the widest possible range of breeding possibilities
