Bootstrapping Group
-
I had the idea of hosting a bootstrapping buddy chat. A place to chat and share ideas/studs/mares for those who are interested in establishing or continuing a bootstrapping line. Bootstrapping is a lot harder than standard breeding, as you often don't have the regular testing mechanisms to help you. It might be nice for folks to be able to get a bit of advice from others who are more experienced in uneven breeding.
If you want to be included in the chat room let me know and I will invite you.
Additionally, I will be placing many of my retired studs up for use by members of the buddy chat. Hopefully others will do the same. -
I would like to be added.
-
I may be asking a stupid question, but what is bootstrapping?
-
What is bootstrapping??
-
bootstrapping, from what I understand, if when you use a high papered stud (like star) to produce offspring of a higher caliber than the mare usually could. You geld the boys, and then breed the girls back to their dad to further improve the line.
And I'd love to be added!Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.
Prices are almost always negotiable.
On the look out for pointed creates -
ObsidianKitsune is correct bootstrapping a line is using a higher quality stud to quickly raise the quality of a line (often starting with Foundation mares) by uneven breeding. Ammit gave me the idea for the name. Pretty sure it is what she referred to it as when we were discussing it months ago.
Bootstrapping allowed me to do in 8 months what took me 3 years to do the first time around, but it's not easy. The nice side effect is lots of altered show ponies. -
Oh ok, so it's just to breed the higher PT show horses?
-
I have plenty of high PT stallions that could be used although I breed enough show horses anyway so probably don't need it myself LOL
-
Not just to get show horses. I used the method to get breeding horses.
-
It's really for high PT breeding though, similar to the old LB lines in HJ1? The bootstrapping gets you the higher PT's quicker than trying to just breed even lines?
-
I've been starting doing this with one of my stallions, would love to be added :)

It is for higher PT's ultimately. For those interested in pushing up their PT scores, and breeding quality (leading to higher PT scores) it will get the job done faster than even breeding.Thanked by 1kintara -
Im very interested in joining! Ive just started doing this this season! You dominating the leaderboards is whats motivating me! Haha. Mi id is 21868Breeding liver chestnut drafts that carry snowflake and kp.
Also breeder of mushroom, watercolour, chinchilla, splash m, wrong warp and thunderstruck.
Horses generally always available.
PM me for any enquiries. -

I would love to get added!
It does help boost pt, though I have found my breeding qualities have been going up faster, hoping to get a good role on pt scores soon. I started with 2 gold mares after over a real life year of even quality breeding, and a hardly used star stud with lots of leader board trophies under his belt. Now after only a few months I have probably about 50 gold mares (some of them from foundation mares) gotten foals high enough quality to start using breeding advice again, and have a bootstrap colt that is higher on the leaderboards than the original stud is.
So yes, bootsrapping does help pt scores. I honestly wish it was increasing my highest scores faster, but it certainly makes better breeders. All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps. -
Id be interested!
-
LOL yes darkstar, you certainly dominate the LB's now! I'd be happy to be added if anyone would like to use my stallions
-
Please add me.
-
I will admit I have a significant presence on the Leaderboards, but I would be happier if there was more diversity. Part of why I have tried to open my bloodlines up to others in the past. Getting up there is tough, folks who started later need a boost to make up for missed years.
Secret confession time. I get a kick out of seeing someone else's horse on the leaderboards and finding it can trace some of it's lines back to my horses. Makes me feel like I have contributed to the community. -
Well, your Dark Pearl and his offspring had a huge leaderboard presence for a long time when you were gone. He was an exceptional stallion in a perfect foundation world!
I’d also be interested in joining. I’d like my show line to improve a bit faster than it is, though it would help if I remembered to breed it every year....

Would I be able to join? I'm fairly new, but I've got two star papered stallions, ones still a baby though. I do have a couple questions though! Breeding back to their father won't cause problems? And once you geld the boys ypu use them as show horses or do you sell them? My id 39955 if i could join! Thank you
-
In this game, there is no drawbacks from in breeding. Most people keep the foals as show horses but if you need the room, auctioning them isn't a bad idea.Producer of Volcanic Glass Drafts. Lapisobsidianus.

@Xceptional I will let Dark Star or one of the other players more experienced with boot strapping address whether you can effectively use an A stud. But even if you can’t, there are a bunch of gorgeous Star studs up for breeding in the chat for not too much money. Alfernatively, if you ask either in a forum post or in that chat I’m sure someone will be able to help you out with an unwanted Star stallion from their herd. We all suffer from too many colts, since it’s roughly a 50/50 sex split but you only need one stallion per 50 mares. Almost everyone has extras! I have a low Star I could sell you but if you can get a high Star you will get better results.
-
@Cheers I will get back to you about that stallion you mentioned after Auction.Quality riding horses with DP, Sooty+, Sooty, SB1 and SB2.
Owner of Ice 1, Phantom Diamond Sparkle, Phantom Lace, Chinchilla, Splash White M, Chocolate, and Onyx. -
You can probably find a better one. He’s gen 6 but only AGA his sire. But I’m happy to offer him!
-
Boostrapping helps to propel your herd to the quality of the superior parent. You could breed lower mares to an A, and with that I would cull anything less than blue and you would have a lot of blues a lot quicker, but the higher the stud the more impact you will get from bootstrapping before you are back to similar quality gains as with even lines. I have several colts that tested aga my bootstrap stud this month. I was planning on hanging onto them and putting them up for breeding to decide if I wanted to keep them, but you could look at them too.All into high quality black based primitive duns and bootstraps.Thanked by 1kintara

Everyone's been invited.
You can use an A stud, but I am sure we can hook you up with a Star.
