Show Score vs PTG
  • I'm having a hard time understanding why a horse with a Performance Test Grade of 11 would end up with low show scores (level 1. Scores below 5. Last place in all classes shown so far)

How are Show Scores even related to a horses Performance Test Grade?

At this point it just seems like showing is all on luck. I thought I was seeing a pattern but now I have no idea.
  • Performance test tells you how talented that horse is. The show score tells you how much they have actually trained. The most talented jumper in the world still has to start from the bottom with no training. The higher the PT the farther they can go in training and showing and the better quality they are.

Sounds like you are trying to show babies. Babies can't be ridden or trained yet so their scores don't improve. They start training up once they hit 2.

  • Ahhh I see! That explains a LOT. Thank you very much for this information. The horse is indeed a 2yr old that I've just started to train.
  • With a PT score of 11, that horse will go bouncing up the Level/Grade ladder so quickly that it may not gather a large number of points until it levels off, but you should not get discouraged and think it's not going to end up profitable. If it levels off in the top half of its Level/Grade--it might be 8 Local or higher--you will see its point collection suddenly start to grow nicely every time it is shown. Even if it's in the bottom half, it will still have a number of game years to continue adding points and increasing your showing bonus.

Here's one of the oldest horses in my barn (the oldest is 27). His PT score is 10.7, a little lower than your 11 point horse. He's currently showing in the top half of 7 World, and has gathered 2,974 points.

You can examine his Records tab and see how he placed through the last real-life year. You can examine the last two classes to see how many points he added and the cash prize he received.
