Show Herd Questions
-
Okay, another round of show herd questions. I have tons of barns full of yearlings and 2-year old spayed/gelded horses. I really need to find a way to make some room for higher pointed horses but do not currently have the means to buy more barns. So, onto my questions.
1. For anyone who culls at 2-years old (send to auction, sell back to game, whatever you consider culling), what do you look at for culling? Do you have a specific level of points (say 25+ at 2yo) that you base your culling on? Is there something else you look at?
2. For those of you that auction spayed and gelded foals/yearlings en masse, how many points determine what makes the cut for you? Or do you also use something else to make your standard?
TLDR: I have too many babies (foal-2yo) and need to figure out how to make them the most money efficient. How many points do y'all consider good enough to make the cut?Hi! I go by Delta! They/Them pronouns.
Deltarian: Mixed bag- Open/Closed Genes, Non-Fantasy/Fantasy Genes.
Deltani Saddle Seat Horses! Deltani horses are DDW white-spotted beauties that express full white.
Delmari: Black based (E/E a/a or E/e a/a) with any number of genes that can add white or other color shifts. -
Unfortunately culling 2 year olds isn't.... ...great.
There's really no way to know if the horse will be a good shower until later in life.
I would suggest selling the lower pointed horses.
I would keep horses in the 10.0-10.4 PT range and keep horses 12.5+ due to corresponding member statistics supporting those ranges.| #59142 | Spotted | Reiner | Chocolatey | Enchanting | Stygien | Lunara |Thanked by 1deltaghoulette -
You should be looking at PT not points if you are culling young show horses. Though it is best to cull older show horses before touching your young stock.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.
