    I want to make sure I'm understanding things correctly.

    1) pasture breeding. If I let them breed naturally mid month it will still cost the money to breed the pasture, correct? I know there is a button to do it manually, which is what I normally do.

    2) orange genes. If I buy a mare/stud with these genes will they just not pass down to offspring if I don't own the license?

    Yes, the cost will be the same.

    Orange genes would be passed on and anyone can buy a horse with orange genes. If you don't own the license for a certain gene then you will be unable to buy or breed to that horse.
