Do collectibles have a higher chance of creating collectibles?
  • A couple of seasons ago someone was wanting to qualify a collectible stud for futurity, and someone else commented that it might take a few tries to get enough foals of showable height.

This got me wondering: Are collectibles more likely to produce collectibles, regardless of mate height? Or does the foal's height balance out between the sire and dam like any other breeding?

    I make stable headers: here.

  • The height will balance out like normal, however you also have the Height Regulator gene to contend with. That gene will make any horse it goes on shorter than it would otherwise be. So if the stud is homozygous it won’t make much difference, but if he’s het for it, foals without will be noticeably taller than those with.

  • There are no collectibles without the A gene. If your horse is homozygous, none of the babies will be able to show. If heterozygous, the ones without A will be able to show. It doesn’t have to do with mate height, it has to do with the gene height regulator A. It will not “balance” out because of this. None of the horses without the height regulator gene will be small enough to not show, so if your horse is heterozygous there will be showable babies.

  • You can have normal hight horses with the height regulator gene that can show. They are just shorter than they would be otherwise.
