What do you do to afford GMT Projects?
  • I need advice... I've recently just been selling horses that don't fit perfectly, but I just don't seem to be making enough. The goal is to add a extra copy of Belton to this boys black strand (successfully added!), nexus (successfully added!) & DFP2 to his dun strand. I'm hoping to have him up for futurities for 1hb next season, but was caught off guard by the genes available for gmts XD

  • Having a good show herd is where the money is. Selling horses is not consistent and depends a lot on demand.
  • @HighstormFarm thank you for the advice and taking the time to read/respond! I have a decent show herd (I think it at least), but as some genes are only available for a limited time I'm afraid I won't really be able to wait for showing if that makes sense...
  • Show herds and selling off rank specials. I recommend show horses in the 12-13+ PT range cause they seem to make the most. If you need show ponies in this PT range I can breed you some and toss em to you for how much it cost me to make ‘em :) It’s slow going but it pays off. My show herd was stagnant at 40k daily bonus for a while at the beginning of this month and now I am at almost 60k daily just from doing this- it’ll keep going up too as my horses age up. I’m seeing it improving already quickly, it’s a long game making a profitable stable but you’ll get there as long as your show herd is improving

  • @VenemousGiant I appreciate your generosity <3 I lost a lot of good show horse this season, but have started trying to breed and collect higher 12-13pt horses to get it back. Currently I'm back up to 39k so probably will get enough in time, and am fine paying a fair price for horses y'all have worked hard on creating! Also great advice! I actually just placed some rank specials I don't need for whatever reason up for sale, and one sold enough for me to have the rest I needed for one of the genes!!!
  • Building up a strong show herd takes time, but it is definitely worth it in the long run. I just went over 160k this week and am still building up my show barns. My Bootstraps are now at the point where I am producing higher PT horses to help build up my herd.
  • Woah that is crazy! And definitely the goal for my bootstrap horses, but hard to find mares or eggs for my stallions. Though I'm sure I'm just being impatient haha
  • That’s where I’m at with my bootstrap ponies too, I have enough where they produce show ponies in the good range. I’m glad you got your hbs! Let me know if you want me to throw some horses your way for showing <3 you can message me any time. I always have extra mares I can breed to my boosted boys for show babies!

  • I started of by breeding a bootstrap stallion to foundation mares. I gelded colts and bred his fillies back to him or to a better stallion when they were of age. If you watch the auctions you can likely find *Gold or better mares as well. I also watched the auctions for horse whose pt was 12+ and nabbed a lot for my show herd that way. I'll take a look through my mares I toss you a few for this season.
  • I appreciate it both of you! Also definitely have been going through auction pretty regularly lately XD have caught some really nice mares occasionally. I also originally started by breeding a quality stallion to foundation, and then those to a better stallion. Then I had to take a break for a little while and only could get on to empty pastures and do quick test to see if any are chimera. Now I'm trying to get back into it on all forums and get back to where I was if not improve. So again I appreciate all the help/advice you both have given!
  • Selling off any show ponies over 10 not pulling their weight may help a bit. I'm fixing to go thru mine since I haven't played consistently in months and therefore didn't show them(basic) I swear I saw 17 year old with less than 100points while scrolling thru the other day...oops
My boots are where it's at and have the hb supply rolling in tho, 191k/daily. But I just gmt'd a couple genes onto a new project from the sale so I'm feeling broke lol. There's no way I'll get everything I want on the colt, but he will hopefully have a good start by the time the sale is over lol.
  • How do you decide who’s “pulling their weight”? I’m trying to decide who to sell xD

  • @Ammit nooo I missed that many?! Is it too late to get any?

@Windigo that is amazing any suggestions on who to cull at 10? I'm sure I have some 17yr olds that are in the 100s I should sell, but I always have a hard time with the younger ones DX
  • @WolfRanch you can still create seaponies for the next 8 days! Approx. 8 per day X 8 = as many as 64!

I cull 10 year old show ponies that have under 500 points, unless they have a really high PT and I know they will keep training higher. Added benefit: I can auction those 10 year olds for their lifetime payout and get cash immediately.
  • @whywishesarehorses thank you I guess I have some ponies to create! Also thank you for the tip I definitely need to go through my barns and clean house from the sounds of it!
  • @WolfRanch, @VenomousGiant, whywishes beat me to it lol. I don't go thru mine every season like j need to, so I have a certain cutoff number in mind for their age after 10 as well.(750 by 12, etc) There's sooo many to cull since I've been gone awhile lol. Trying to get back in the habit of playing daily again.
I also like to look at how well they're placing in shows they've entered in the past month or two after they reach 10 or when they level off. I have a lot of bootstraps that kinda bomb til they're older. If they level off and are placing in the top third of their shows, I'll let them slide if they don't quite have enough points for my cutoff cause they'll be raking in hbs since they levelled off in a good spot for their skill level.
The hbs you get from selling when they're 10-15ish for lifetime payouts could be the extra help you need to get extra gmt's for goodies. It's pretty much not worth auctioning the ones closer to aging out though. Any pony over 20 I have usually stays til they age out, it's a gamble I'll take every month lol. They could possibly age out at 18, sure. But lifetime payout only calculates until they're 18. They could also live til they're 39! I have a few lol.
You'll find what works best in your barns tho. I know it's hard to make some cull choices lol. I hope this helps. Holler if y'all need extra show ponies, I've got barns full lol.
  • @Windigo I'm just starting to try and play daily again too lol, and thank you the advice is very helpful!
