Unusual Dun Factor on Real horse
-
This is my miniature filly. She's 2 months old. I just body clipped her and found these markings. I learned on fb its called Mottling and is part of the dun factoring group. I've owned a whole lot of duns and have never seen anything like this. I even had her great great grandsire which was the original dun on the farm. That makes her 4th generation Skylight horse. ;D Her sire is a super dark grullo splash tobiano and dam is a bay tobiano. It would be cool if dun mottling got added to the game in the future.

I have seen markings like this on the face and ears called "webbing" or "lacing" too. She's very cute!

She is the cutest lil thing :xID 53752 Breeding ponies of all sizes and lots of pretty colors!

She is gorgeous! I agree that dun mottling would be a cool addition to the game.Breeding high quality Sheldasen horses. Liver chestnut, DP mushroom, and rose gray riding horses. Dun cobs with all the patterns. Watercolor, Wrong Warp and ice on mixed body types.

I think it is just from the body clipping and will vanish as her coat goes back to normal. Clipping causes all sorts of strange issues with the coat because of how it cuts the hair off at unusual places in the banding pattern. She is also a baby so still has foal camo stuff going on.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. The IBHA website talks about the mottling dun factor. Pretty cool.
Mottling is found on the forearm, gaskin, shoulders, and stifle. It appears as a circular motif in shades darker than the body color. Mottling gives the appearance of “reversed dapples”. It is generally not found on the horse's winter coat.

I'm keeping this filly so we'll see if it goes away or if it stays as she matures. She also has barbs coming off the dorsal stripe. She's mostly white so a lot of the dun factor is not visible. -
What an interesting look! It'll be very cool to see how her coat changes as she matures!ID# 25784

Someone in Germany posted this pic of their grown Grullo. Looks like the mottling marks should stay as my filly matures. :D How unique!

Update. I still have this filly with the unusual stripes on her body. They do show in the summer time but are more visible when clipped. Dun factoring is so cool. :)

I'm glad she kept her markings. Stories like this keep the game vital for me.45120
