OK so I had a squiz on two horses of mine who are similar base wise. One has much larger spots than others, so I shouldn't need to even edit the horses in the GMT, just have a peak. And what do you know? There is a different in the LPP2!

@SolandisStables this is what can be known as a "Hidden gene". We can't see it on their gene test. But we can however see it in the gmt lab when we go to edit them. You do need at least 1 gmt to do this though.

The slow fading is on a gene that looks like Vrn in the gene lab. I don't track it, so I'm not sure which version is which.

I’ve got a breeding goal of hom LPP1 for my project. I still don’t have conclusive answers but it seems like LPP2 is dominant over LPP1.

Vrn is definitely the factor controlling Appaloosa varnish. Evergreen Boughs have NO copies of Vrn.

I can’t see the genes on any foundation horses, even in the GMT lab. I have to breed and inspect the second generation in order to infer what hidden genes were on the parents. From the second generation onwards I can see the genes in the GMT lab
