Questions regarding Consistency & PT in showing
-
When building up a showing barn, is it generally better to have more consistent horses versus inconsistent horses?
I understand that consistency can have variation in results in showing, but is either (consistent or not) more advantageous, or does each have its pros and cons?
I'm also wondering how the PT score might might affect consistency (e.g. Would a horse that has 10.5 PT consistent generally do better than one with a higher PT but inconsistent?)
TL;DR: which should I go for in show horses, consistent or inconsistent, or does it not really matter? Thank you! -
*caveat* I have a gigantic show herd that I do not monitor closely. Others with herds they pay more attention to may answer differently.
In my experience, PT is more important than consistency when you’re looking for show ponies. I don’t think there’s a huge amount of difference between ponies with similar PTs but different consistency.
I do my best not to allow inconsistent horses in my breeding herd though.Thanked by 1hojichai -
Inconsistency only matters if it gets really out of control but as long as a horse is from tested lines you won't run into issues as breeding advice and testing limits it. As long as it does not say "very inconsistent" you are fine.Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post.
