I have access to some of the fantasy genes, but my giftee has all different ones. Do i need to buy a license for one to apply it to one of their gift horses?

This is my first exchange so i have no idea about the things.

Are you trying to add it to a foundation to give it to them or transfer them other horses?

If you are trying to buy lined horses for them somebody with that license can transfer it to them.

If you are gifting them a gene you can buy it on a foundation horse you currently own and when you transfer the horse via the gift exchange “send” option the license will transfer with it.

I would probably be buying it on a lined horse for them since they're looking for higher papers. So i can buy the horse for them after the 15th and it will work even though i don't own the license?

No you have to own the license. But somebody who owns the license can transfer it to them the normal way. For instance if it was my horse I could sell it to them via chat room and you could just mark it down on your notes with the horses id#.

Also you meant buying a horse with the gene, right? You can’t add genes to lines horses.

Yes, buying a lined horse that has the fantasy gene already.

Okay, i didn't realize we could transfer them in that way as well. I thought we had to buy or create the horse and have it in our possession before gifting.

I offer Elfing services during the winter exchange (I currently own all available fantasy gene except Ice 18 and 19 which have not yet been released) so if you need me to be a go between for any ponies that you need to gift with genes you don't own I'm happy to do so! Just drop me a private message and we can get it set up! You will want to keep track of how many horses you have to do that way so you can account for them when you do the exchange wrap up report at the end since the game itself cant track those ones though!

Yeah, what you’re talking about is called Elfing. Those of us who own the licenses already and have upper gen stock with them will “sell” you the horse, but then transfer it directly to your giftee via a private chat. You need to keep up with it in your own notes since horses sent via Elfing won’t show up automatically on your list, but it’s a way to send genes you don’t own the license for and a great way to send stock without spending real life money if you don’t have it. Either arrange for whoever you’re purchasing from to Elf for you, or if that person can’t (cause it is Christmas and some of us are super time poor over the holidays) just put out a call for another Elf on the forum and someone will step in for you!

Also, this is a fabulous way to send ponies during the “anonymous” gifting period because the horses never pass through your barn!
