How to specialize?
-
Hey there! new to this game but not breeding sims in general, so I was looking to specialize in one or two colorways to give myself a goal to work with, however I am having a little trouble getting information atm.
I found something called chimeras on here, super interesting and something I'd like to look into, however I was hoping there might be a general consensus of what has a market on this server and what doesn't?
Also, any tips for cultivating a herd? do you kull out and sell everything you don't NEED, or is it ok to just hoard your foals for awhile on here?
Edit: clarification - I am looking to breed either a range of grey or champagne horses most likely, with a focus on trying to get chimeras -
Also, if there are any mentor programs on here that I haven's seen yet I would love to sign up!

Chimeras are hard to breed. But herd helpers will help with getting gray and champagne horses. For me I keep all SBA (strict breeding advice) passed mares (feature for only premium upgraded members) stallions must pass SBA AND paper superior to side for me to keep. There are no rules on how you choose to cull your horses. As long as you have space keep whatever you want to keep. Every horse is worth at least 2,500hbs (auction start price) and it just depends on what people are looking for. No real market I guess for anything. Everyone has there own thing they breed for. For me I'm trying to get every restricted gene this month so I have no restrictions on what I can buy. But I mostly breed Liver Chestnuts or Chocolate Palominos and heavily gmt'd fantasy horses . Other people breed for real colors and what not.
I hope this helps. There is a FAQ here that would help you I'll link it. This community is more than willing to help and if you have any further questions please ask :) better safe than sorry.

Always willing to help. Licensed for everything. Specialize in Liver Chestnuts, Chocolate Palominos, Sabino, Tobiano. But I breed everything except Frame

Hey MickeyMoose! Welcome to the game, your username is fantastic!
In terms of you asking about what has a market and what doesn't, the easiest answer is that the way this game is set up, it's easier/more reliable to generate income by using a show pony herd than by selling breeding stock. No member's tastes or breeding herd is the same, so definitely breed for what YOU like!
To answer your chimera question, the chimera trait is not directly heritable. You are more likely to get a chimera foal from chimera parents, and you are also more likely to get a chimera foal from a chimera mare than from a chimera stud. Additionally, it's more common to get a chimera foal by using straws and embryos in the lab than by using live breeding. If you're interested in breeding chimeras, I would collect a herd of foundation chimeras (many rank special creates are chimera!) and try your luck.
In terms of mentoring, we're all pretty welcoming and helpful around here! The Player Support buddy chat is a great place to ask questions. Otherwise, people are always willing to answer questions on the forum.ID 43830
It's nice to be back! :)

I don't see that anyone has specifically mentioned this aspect of the game, so I'll chime in with it, in case you haven't learned about it yet.
The most reliable income source in this game, aside from the weekly pay that hits our accounts on Sundays, is based on the show points our horses earn. For every show a horse enters, every horse except the one that places last earns a certain number of "show points." The amount of points earned is based on the Level and Grade of the show, and the number of horses in each class. Horses keep all their show points, even if they are sold to a new owner. Each night, a player's account receives a cash showing bonus based on all the points all that players horses are holding. The formula is Total Number of points times 75% divided by 7. If you look on a horse's Info Tab, you will see its show point information.
For example, My 11 year old stallion, Strawberry Moonlight's info tab has this:
Total Point: 258.5
Daily Payout: 28 hbs
Current Lifetime Payout: 5516 hb'sDe gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."
