Adding genes!
  • So I have a mare that I added Mushroom and Shamrock to. I’m just wondering though since I bred her does that mean that I can’t add anything else to her? Or will I be able to add more Special genes to her next breeding season?
  • You won't be able to add any other genes to her unless you sell her baby back to the game.
  • Even next breeding season?
  • Well that answers my question about another mare that I have then. Looks like I’m going to have to hold off on breeding her until the Lace Gene comes around again.

Oh well! Honestly I’m not in any rush to breed my other mare and as far as my Mushroom/Shamrock mare goes I don’t think I want to add anything else to her any way come to think of it. So I guess it’s OK. It will be difficult to be patient and wait for Lace though. I want that gene soooo bad.
  • Glad I could help answer your question. I imagine it will be worth the wait to get it!
  • @EvieC I would not hold your breath for the lace gene coming anytime soon. The phantom genes normally only go on sale during their season, unless Ammit decides to be gracious and puts them up at other times. So the next time lace is expected won’t be until next Valentine’s Day.
  • @FallenShadows714 Yes I know! As I said I’m not in any rush to breed the mare. However I just thought of something.

If horses age 1 year every month on this game she might be too old to breed by the time Lace comes around again.
  • OK. I just did the math. She will be 18 when Lace comes around again. So she should be able to breed. At least I think so. Isn’t it 20 years old when horses stop being able to breed?
  • @evieC horses can age out of the game at 18.
  • Yes, they can be bred until they turn 20.

  • They can breed as long as under 20yo, but I wouldn't wait for lace for that horse, she may pass on before it even comes on sale! Just choose another mare to put it on once lace goes on sale, then you'll have many more lace foals to enjoy
  • You can collect and save eggs from a mare and still GMT her as long as she doesn't have any foals. I have done that with mares that i desperately wanted to add genes to or needed to boost but didn't want to miss out on any breedings. I have had a mare for several seasons, collected around 30+ eggs and was still modifying her as needed :) This is the first season i finally used her eggs

  • kintara - Thing is that would ruin my project! I have something in mind that I’m working on and honestly the horse that I want the Lace Gene on is the Perfect one in my mind. I definitely want the horse to be a Light Colored Mare and have Satin & Lace. Otherwise it defeats the purpose!
  • AHayesHorses - I’m not in any hurry to breed her!
  • @EvieC The problem is, the mare could pass after she turns 17. So you will have her for her 17th year, but no guarantee she will survive to be 18. Which means you wouldn’t be able to add lace to her anyway, because she will have passed away. Sometimes horses live past 17, sometimes they don’t. Honestly, I would just breed this girl now and enjoy her. Then next year, have your GMT tokens saved up to add satin to a younger mare, and add lace when it comes back next year. There is, as I said, absolutely no guarantee lace will be available before next Valentine’s Day.
  • @FallenShadows714 - As I have already said I’m honestly not in any hurry to breed her. Also thing is that would ruin my project! I have something in mind that I’m working on and honestly the horse that I want the Lace Gene on is the Perfect one in my mind. I definitely want the horse to be a Light Colored Mare and have Satin & Lace. Otherwise it defeats the purpose!
  • AHayes has a good point though. If you collect eggs from her from now until you can add lace, you'll have a lot of eggs collected so if she does pass, it wouldn't have been a total waste. If you wait to do any egg pulling or just fully wait to breed until you add lace, you *might* get one foal, or if you've pulled eggs that month then you may get as many foals as you did eggs. If you pull eggs starting now, when she does pass, you will have even more eggs (and therefore foals).
My question is. Can't you just use any created light horse? You also can GMT one to be exactly how you want, just closer to February.

  • @EvieC I understand that, but your horse may not even be alive next February to put the gene on is the problem. There is a 50/50 chance she will live to 18, and in my mind that’s not odds I would want to take. Then you just have these satin eggs sitting around that “isn’t what you want”. The horse you have made the notes for is a Yule Log Ashes. Those come around every year at Christmas. Make a 2yo this coming Christmas, save up your GMTs for satin, and then add lace in February when she turns 4 and bam, breedable mare with what you want immediately. Plus, a Yule Log Ashes horse isn’t that hard to re-create on any other herd helper with some extra GMT tokens.
  • But if I collect eggs from her now those eggs will NOT have the Lace Gene! So what exactly would be the point? I have a few Satin mares. If I want to breed for Satin I could do so very easily.

Also in terms of GMTing a horse I would obviously need the money to do that and being disabled and I don’t have a job that is much easier said than done
  • Any eggs of straws collected before GMTing will be updated with the horse. The genes that the horse has at the time the eggs are used are the ones that matter, not the genes it had when the egg was collected.

  • As Ondowa said. Any eggs collected WOULD have the lace gene if you added it to her. On the subject of GMTing, you can buy GMTs via game money if you save them.

  • Another thing to consider is that your mare is het for gray. She won't show the lace herself, and there's a 50% chance her foals will also be gray and not show the lace gene as adults. Of course, you know what you want.

As an alternative idea, have you considered reaching out to players who have stallions that carry homozygous Lace for straws?

  • @OndowaStables - Wow! Really? I always thought it was the genes that the horse has when you collect the Straws/Eggs that matter. I didn’t know that if you add a gene then it adds it to the straw/egg. Wow!
  • @pfrsue - Again the point is that I am wanting Lace on a Light Colored/White Mare that has Satin. Otherwise the whole point is lost and I do NOT want Lace then! It absolutely MUST be on a Light Colored/White Mare that has Satin!
  • Wait! But if you flush eggs from a mare doesn’t that count as breeding her? I’m confused!
  • If you do a mass flush it will make her "bred this year", but the only thing that counts when it comes to GMTing, is that the horse has no living descendants. I pull an egg every 5 days and mass flush on the last day with all my special foundations. I have done that through a mares entire life, and finished GMTing right before she turns 18 several times.

  • Your mare turns 17 in January that means that she could feasibly cross pixel bridge on the roll over at midnight on Jan 31. Phantom lace doesn't and will not (Ammits been really firm that phantoms only come up on their season and not any other time) reappear till February so she might not even be alive to add it on to and you've wasted her entire life waiting for that gene. OR you could with a Premium Upgrade (which you'd need for pulling and using her eggs like Maribo and others have suggested also) clone her when she turns 17 in January (cloning works even if she has been bred), the clone wont be brindle but it will have her current genes otherwise so the clone will have the satin and then that clone will be a 2 year old foundation in February when lace hits and you can have your very not visible but dream project white/gray satin and lace horse and you'll have her at use for all her breeding seasons.
    Dabbler in EVERYTHING.
  • Question, and I’m gonna play devils advocate here. You have your mare that you have satin on. You pull all the eggs you can, waiting for lace. Let’s say you don’t get lucky and lace doesn’t come up before February.

Your horse turns 17 on January 1st. At rollover between January 31st and February 1st, your mare dies, and all these eggs you have collected for 9 months ONLY have satin. Lace goes on sale February 1st.

What would you do with those eggs? You can’t add lace to a dead horse, so these eggs you spent all that money on pulling are essentially useless because they are only satin.
  • @Maribo - Wow! Thanks for that info! I didn’t know that. I thought if you pull eggs/straws that it counts as breeding the horse in general. So in other words they had been bred and couldn’t be GMTed any more. I didn’t realize that it only counts as they’ve been bred this season
  • Save up and add satin to another mare. Light/white Yule Log Ashes mares aren't rare, you will likely easily be able to create or buy one next christmas that is exactly like the one you have now, but heaps younger so you can enjoy the lace! I'm sure people will help you closer to the time so you can have your perfect mare. In the mean time use the mare you have now, and use a lace stallion on her that someone else has
  • @kintara - I can’t breed her to a Lace Stallion. I do not have the license for the Lace Gene yet.
  • I’m definitely going to “try” to save up though. I say “try” because it’s not easy for me to save up on here. There’s way too many tempting horses on here that I want. LOL
