What am I doing wrong?

I've put 2 copies of KP on her and she still doesn't register or show it. I plan on making a stud when done.

Her white factor needs uped slightly.Thanked by 1SummertreeFarms

White factor might help, but for either to work you need another Kit gene. Regular KP only works if you have two kit genes and KP2 only expresses if you have some visible white. W20 only helps with OGKP. :) If you need a cheap option, try white2, it's beautiful. :D
-
W2 IS gorgeous, but it is VERY lethal! Just keep that part in mind!
-
You don't have to have both kit genes for the kit promoters to interact with each other. That was somewhere in the original post.
-
What I'm seeing is that you put both of the KP alleles on the same strand, the sire's side. She needs to have KP on both strands, the sire's side and the dam's side. You do need two kit mutations as well. Right now she has just one, White 20, so plan on adding another Kit mutation. I'd also second upping the white factor a little.De gustibus non disputandum. Hmm, I’m seeing both KP2 and KP, so I’m not sure if that’s the case. I’m admittedly not familiar with how KP2 works aside from only needing one white to show, so I don’t know how it interacts with the original KP or what it’s supposed to look like. However, my first instinct would be to follow up on Chrystal’s comment and say to try upping the white factor before you do anything else, or maybe swap out that w20 for a more prominent white if you want to keep the lower white factor. W20 doesn’t do a whole lot on its own.ID 45703 | he/himOpen barn policy - no closed lines! I can't find the post....and I've spent a good hour looking! :)) just try upping the white factor and rerolling her first. It might save you the money of adding another Kit gene.
-
I’m pretty sure KP, no matter if it’s Hom KP or het KP/KP2, requires two kit genes to display the cloudy look and be registered in the Breeders club. It also really needs a higher WF than “none”, although with rerolls you might be able to get small patches.
Example: het roan/sabino 1 and Hom KP, and you can’t see a cloud

I recommend adding the second copy of w20 and then see what happens. -
Guys I'm sure a second copy of w20 won't get you what you need. KP2 needs a white marking already showing to have something to modify. KP/KP2 look really cool together, but you do need a second kit gene for them to interact with.
Because w2 is a very strong gene, it will show up at a very low white factor without overpowering the rest of the horse's coat. It does combine as a lethal gene, yes, but I think it's also your best bet. :) This modification will only cost you one GMT, and I think it's all you need. The w20 raises your white factor artificially.
Also, Appaloosa and roan won't be affected by KP2 either. Ammit chose to have those markings an exception.
You're having a lot of information thrown at you, Heavenly, and a lot of it is conflicting. My information comes from a combination of the Facebook discussion and the original post. :) Plus some breeding of my own.
Here is a w2/w20 horse without any KP:
Boy Good Champagne
This is one of mine, with KP2, one copy of w2, and a low but not the lowest white factor--you need both alleles of Kit used for KPregular to have any effect:

Lastly, I have seen KP and KP2 interact, and it's wicked cool. But I can't find it again and I don't know how to replicate it.
I hope you can figure out the cheap way to get a look you like! :) -
I found the horse I thought had KP/KP2 interacting with each other and it turns out it's Hom Sabino 1:
Fivepence Penny Dreadful
You also haven't said you were willing to spend any money on it but I found a horse with KP2 and Lace who's subtle and beautiful:
Origami
He's Hom w20 and the KP2 modifies the lace. :) -
I would use a sabino kit Gene as the second Gene or for both kit genes. It's much less lethal, and KP2 does amazing things with it. It also looks beautiful with kit M if you can manage to save up the GMTs. Both are lower on the lethal chart. Kit M allows you to see more color from your horse even if the white factor is higher. Sabino genes tend to white out your horse with higher white factors if there is a W20 Gene. (At least this has been my experience.). Hope that helps.Thanked by 1RoseFlute

He is now perfect! Thank you for all your help, I went with the sabino add. He is going to be my primary stud when he grows up.
-
oooh he looks so good! :D Sabino was a great choice.

He is absolutely gorgeous! Congratulations!
