Lifetime Payout and Show Results Help Please
  • I'm struggling a bit with numbers at the moment so it's time to cull my herd a little. I'm currently looking through some of my show horses that have leveled off, and I have a few who are puzzling me. I want to make sure I'm doing the most advantageous thing and keeping the ones that will have the best long term effect on my stable.

For instance: This guy is placing dead last, but still showing a CLP of over 10k

This one: He is placing 1st in his shows but has a CLP of about 5k

And this one: Also placing 1st in shows but CLP of just ove 6k

    Can someone please help?
    Thanks!

  • The total points each horse has depends on their daily hbs which contributes to their lifetime payout.

So if I had to choose it would be the first one and the last one. Im still learning so someone more experienced can correct me if im wrong

  • A bit of clarification here:

    1. The total points each horse has governs their showing bonus, which contributes to their lifetime payout.

    2. Total points is influenced by (a) PT score, (b) age and Level/Grade when horse levels off, (c) luck that determines where the horse is placing in its classes when it levels off.

    3. Lifetime payout is determined by how many days before the horse turns 18 times daily payout. Once a horse is older than 18, lifetime payout includes showing bonus payments until the end of the month/game year.

    4. Inconsistency affects where horses place in their classes, thus affecting how many points get added to the total with each show and how much will be added to the showing bonus.
De gustibus non disputandum. "There's no arguing about tastes."

  • What happened is the first horse won a lot of points as he was being trained, but now that he isn’t being trained anymore he is now at the bottom of a show class with no chance of improvement. The other two did gain as many points when they were being trained, however they leveled off in a better spot for continuing to gain points.

The first horse will not gain many more points overall in his lifetime, and his lifetime payout will continue to drop as he gets older. The other two will continue to gain points as they age, which will help your daily bonus, they may never have a lifetime payout as good as the first but they’re still making you points which is the goal.

I always send anything over 10 that had leveled off to auction if they aren’t gaining me points anymore. I start at the oldest and work my way down to the 11/10 yr olds. Anything that has won less than 20-30 points halfway through the game year is auctioned off. I spend half the $$ I get off of those horses buying replacement show horses, to supplement the spelled foals I got that breeding year. If I was you I’d auction the first one and keep the other two.

  • Echoing BlacxDiamond here - auction the first and keep the other two. My general rule of thumb in my own barns is pretty much the same, expect I just go through them at around 13-14 looking for leveled off ones who are lower than half in their class, usually the bottom three or four places or so.

Of course, that’s when I don’t have space - I far prefer to just keep literally everything if I have the barn space for it. :P

  • I do kind of what Lallyhop does (except I do it regularly, toward the end of the month). I do a search of all my gelded/spayed horses over 10, and sort by "points earned this year". I then check the horses on the last two pages or so of that search, mostly to see whether they have leveled off or are still training.

The horses at the end of the search are pretty much always at the bottom of their showing class. If they are leveled off, I send them to auction.
