Gosh I would love a hint. I’m trying to decide if I need to flush the mare and try her with a bunch of different studs tomorrow, just to see what happens. Who happened to make a 3yo colt? I need straws!

@SpryofJune's theory that it is a recreation of the first horse we created doesn't work. My first HJ horse was a black splash mare, my Ghost of Xmas Past is a chestnut draft mare.

@MariaChapinsFarm3 might have a good idea with bringing back an old gene? But it would have to be a hidden one.

Mine is an unbred 4yo chestnut mare. If someone wants to put their stud up for live cover I will breed her tomorrow to see what I get!

@RiverMeadows- I am talking about leopard complex (Lp). This is what gives the appaloosa characteristics (mottled soft parts, white scelera, striped hooves). I am not entirely as familiar with appaloosa genetics as I am in the other areas but LP causes progressing degrees of varnishing (roaning out) in the horse's coat. It is not known why some horses are quick varnishers (that is, they start progressively whiting out at a relatively young age and quickly) and some retain a high degree of their coloring.

On the game, it is supposedly possible to breed for horses that are slow to varnish out or don't varnish at all. I don't know much about this aspect and other players will have to chime in on that.

I am not sure my slow varnish theory is correct though. So many variables and I did a quick search of all the horses with the Christmast Ghost tattoo and there is a rainbow of horses, each with something different. I wish there was a way of seeing if each horse carries PATN1 regardless of if they carry LP or not.

Here's a thought: when the Mysterious Sigil horses first came out, no one knew what made them so special because Tiger Eye didnt yet show up in the gene code. Are these horses carrying a new gene that hasn't been released yet?

I bought a 4 year old mare that was up for sale, I'd be willing to flush her and cross the eggs with a stud if anyone has straws they want to contribute. Can yum back the foals if the stud holder would agree to that otherwise stud owner would get first dibs on foals if deciding to keep.

My guess is if the RS horses are out, the gene is also out, just not yet programmed to appear in the gene code.

I was really hoping it would be either PATN2 or a no/slow varnishing appy. However, Merry Ghostmas just a bit up is clearly varnishing (though possibly he’s het for whatever the varnish gene is?) and my plain bay filly is Hom for ECA3P +. I have no further ideas at the moment.

It makes sense to me that it would be an old gene come back again but I don’t know what.

I'm thinking the Ghosts of the Past will have old basic genes we've had in the past. Ghosts of the Present will have new genes we got this year, specifically nd1 and tiger eye. Ghosts of the Future will carry a new gene.

It looks like MakeMeABird beat me to that theory though!

I am trying to patiently wait to see if anyone figures out if it has any special genes before I gmt but I'm not so good at waiting so might not be able to resist starting to modify lol. Pretty sure Ammit is loving watching us trying to figure it out though :-))

I was thinking about adding snowflake to another horse (from the RGS,) and I pulled up my Christmas Past mare while I was there, and she did not have any existing snowflake.

I bred mine to my hom SNF stallion with no snf results but it is possible that it just didn't get passed on if she is het. I'm leaning towards thinking they are just a normal random hh since mine wasn't het dp or kp and leaning towards not SNF but not totally disproved yet. All I know is I love how my girl turned out lol
