Snowflake only shows if its homozygous and if the horse is expressing appaloosa (the Lp gene).
It shows as defined flecks of white that get larger as they age and varnish out

I don't doubt that they ARE carriers, its just impossible to tell unless they are (3) or are expressing the gene

Well I mean, usually with snowflakes (when homozygous, like you said) they have little white flakes like this girl.

When heterozygous, the only way to tell if they carry the gene (they never express it when homozygous)expresseither breed them to a homo/hetero partner, or look back in their lines to see if any of their ancestors are carriers.

In this case, yours are foundation stallions, so you can look back at their parents; the only way to tell would be to breed them to another snowflake mare.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but they both do express the double Llp gene, so that rules out them being homozygous. (They don't have flecks)

Oh and what you see (the little white spots on the two mares) is the varnishing of the appaloosa.
