Dilution genes
  • Am I missing any? If so please list them and how they affect the phenotype

Cream: palomino, buckskin, perlino, cremello, Smokey black, Smokey cream
Pearl: needs to be homozygous to show? Or paired with cream
Champagne: classic, amber, sable, gold, cream
Silver: affects black right? That's why we see if on black/bays but not chestnuts
    Dun: visible on all coats
Mushroom: cant believe I forgot to add this one

Smokey cream is this one we have on the game. In my research I found it. Black with hom cream. Or is it simply Smokey black with no special name

I am very forgetful so if I owe you anything but am taking to long please send me a PM. I don't get on to play the game as often as I once did but I am usually most active during the 2nd and 3rd week of each month
  • Mushroom is also one.
Need to contact me? Read this first. Only send me a PM for PayPal issues or if I ask you to. Otherwise, make a forum post. You will get a better faster answer by making a post.

I sometimes get busy and miss things. If your private message, question, etc. gets missed please ping me so I can follow up with you. I am also always happy to explain or clarify. (HAJ does not have a customer service email, please send me a forum message! )

  • Under Champagne you list cream; cream champagnes are just any base color plus Champagne plus cream.
Black + Ch + Cr = Classic Cream Champagne.

Black + Cr = Smokey Black.
    Black + Cr + Cr = Smokey Cream/ Creme*

    Macchiato also dilutes coat color.

*SandyCreek is correct, the spelling should be Creme. It isn't 100% consistent, both spellings appear in different places.
  • Black + CrC = Smokey Black in the game
Black + CrCr = Smokey Creme in the game (It has to be spelled like this. Smokey Cream will not find anything.)

  • Is pangare considered a dilute or a marking?
  • I tend to think of pangere as a pattern more than a marking.
It doesn't have an appreciable effect on overall coat color, so I don't mentally file it with dilution. Just sort of its own thing.
  • lol, I meant pattern. Like tobiano or appaloosa but it lightens instead of whitens.
  • I would think pangere is a pattern/marking as well, since it only affects certain parts of the body. (At least it only affects it in game, I’m not sure if the representation in game is the same as real life pangere. Would need to do research)
  • Right, but it isn't random like tob or Lp, it stays at the muzzle and flanks, although it does vary in extent and shade some. But you can have a black liver with pangere - it doesn't have a significant effect on overall dark vs light.
At a casual observation level, the game is pretty true to life, although I haven't run across a HaJ horse with maxed-out pangere as extensive as I've seen it get in real life.
  • While not an actual dilution, I would also note the following:

Roan, depending on the extent of expression, can artificially “lighten” the coat color.

Also, Appaloosa mixed with dun or cream or both can do some weird things to base colors. Again, technically not a dilution but something to be aware of as you mess with stuff.

And in the realm of fantasy genes, some of the various Ice incarnations seem to affect base coat color slightly. Ice 9 has a slightly smoky effect, while I think Ice 10 has a slight lightening effect. This is simply based on personal observation and may not really be true after more scientific investigation.
  • Wouldn't pangere be a little more like an extension gene like agouti? It restricts pheomelanin sort of similar to how agouti restricts eumelanin.

  • Pangare is a modifying gene.
    #28036
  • I know that Macchiato can lighten the base coat around the pattern and slightly overall, although would that be considered a pattern due to it being a Splash gene?

    Prices are almost always negotiable.
On the look out for pointed creates
  • I think scientifically, Macchiato is a mutation that inhibits development of pigmentation (which is what causes the white spotting and faded color) so it would be a dilution, right?
