Closed gene question

    If I want to start a line with closed genes I have to own a foundation with it. Can I buy a foundation from someone and start a line? If I have a foundation can I start getting others with the gene and it'll carry for me? I'm confused on how I can breed for my own closed genes and if I have a foundation and buy others with genes would the other pass the gene on then. Thanks.

    Closed genes are purchased with real money. I doubt someone will sell you a foundation for that reason because if they did they would lose the right to breed that gene. The license to breed that gene goes with the foundation.

    Closed genes come up for sale every few real life months. Your best bet is to purchase one directly the next time they are available. :)

    If you just want to breed fantasy genes there are several around. The FAQ guide has a list of the status of different genes.

    @WolfsGarden once you own a foundation with the gene, inheritance works just like every other gene in the game. If you got a homozygous Foundation, all its offspring will carry the closed gene. If you got a heterozygous Foundation, it’s offspring will have a 1/2 chance of carrying it.

    Intact offspring with closed genes are subject to Sales restrictions. You can sell your intact offspring on the buddy chat for that closed gene, and also sell breedings to your horse in the buddy chat as well. That way you can add “fresh blood” from other people who also own the gene to your own line.
